Anyone have a kid with H1N1??

Well, my 4 yr old went to the ER and he has H1N1. I had the shot last week, so hopefully I'll be ok, but no one else in the house has had it (which is 3 other kids and 2 other adults) Any advice to help my little man?

I'm SORRY. Just emphasize HANDWASHING and Covering Coughs. other than that, AIR OUT!!! The ladies here, and my OB and the ER Doc all said the same thing, KEEP FRESH AIR MOVING.

Well he's got a mask to wear, and I have a huge bottle of hand-sanitizer next to the bed, so at least we have some stuff to help.

How bad was it that he had to go to the E.R.? Just out of curosity. Nobody in my house has had it yet, but both of my parents, and my sister are school teachers, so it's probably just a matter of time till it comes around this way. Good luck I hope he feels better soon!

Crissil - We were at the ER Sunday night and they diagnosed my 4 year old with H1N1 as well. Our children's hospital ER has a team meeting you and they have split the ER into possible H1N1 and all other concerns. We were in and out in less than an hour and a half. Cara - Good luck keeping yourself and the rest of the household healthy. I also had the vaccine last week and so had she. The doctor said it had not been enough time for either of us to build up full immunity. So far my DH has been OK. Tonight I have started a nasty cough...but no other symptoms yet.but I'm calling my OB in the morning to see if I can get some Tamaflu just in case.

Well, he's had a really bad fever that will seem to go away then come back worse. He was so hot to the touch that I would sweat just holding him. I called the on call nurse and she said it was up to us if we wanted to take him to the ER or not, so we took him. Glad we did though, maybe we got it early enough that he will recover quickly

My son has been running a fever, coughing and so on. I had my DH take him to the ER and they finally said he was ok to return home. I know my DH didn't ask as many questions as I would have. For instance how do they know wheter he has the H1N1 or not. DH said they didn't take blood. Do they do a swab test or do the go by symptoms? Since returning home I have gotten all my sons symptoms. I feel just horrible! Coughing while 32 weeks pregnant is painful. My throat hurts, head hurts and I have a fever.

Not the kids yet...I think DH has a flu but refuses to admit it.  It makes me so mad he's spreading germs to all of us and he just doesn't understand that a healthy house makes a happy mommy.  Lucky for St Louis - the rain has cleared up some and we we have temps in the 60's the next few days - all my windows are open upstairs.

Hey there ladies..My 15 month old had it and as it happend I took him to the doctor cause he just wasn't acting like himself and they said he didn't have the "flu look". WTH but they did find an ear infection. So later on that evening he started spiking a fever which I knew wasn't ear infection related. I monitored him for the next day and I could tell he was feeling worse. He was coughing and running fever, he started having to work his chest and tummy just to breath it looked like so I called the nurse and they sent us to the after hours clinic. When they did the Influenza A (H1N1) test it was a nose swab. The only thing we could do for his fever and possible body aches was to rotate Tylenol and Motrin as usual and try to keep him drinking, drinking and drinking some more. Once he started the Tamiflu he broke his fever that next day. They say if you catch it early enough it happens quick. Hopefully he'll be feeling better really soon. Also some ice cream or sherbert if he likes it will keep him cooled down a bit and I would recommend room temp baths throughout the day if he keeps running fever. To everyone who reads this...Don't feel like your crazy if you run your lil' ones to the doctor for every sniffle and sneeze right now, because the more you watch the better your chances are of catching it early if they contact it. Good luck!!!!!!

Re: Anyone have a kid with H1N1??

So a quick update on my little man!! He is MUCH better today!! The dr. said to alternate Ibuprofen and Tylenol and that is working great! He is still wearing the mask and I'm not letting him take it off until I''m convinced he's ok. He has his appetite back today, yesterday it was like pulling teeth to get him to eat. His fever seems to be almost gone. Am gonna keep giving the meds at least until tomorrow and if his fever is still low I will try to take him off and see how he does. Thanks for all the advice, think we either caught it early or he just had a really mild case, either way I am thrilled that he is better and is almost back to his normal self!
