Re: Pregnant and Breastfeeding??? - Anyone else............
Hey! I am in this boat! I posted this on the other breastfeeding board but didnt' get much of a response, I know back a few years ago there were a bunch of tandum nursers My son Max is only 9 months old and I am 5.5 weeks PG with my 3rd baby .. we didnt' exactly plan it this way, but I am bound and determined to nurse him until he's a year old, which will be right at the end of my 1st trimester.. my milk supply has dropped off.. I pump during the day while he's at daycare and can barely get enough..
I am the same amount of tired as I was for my last 2 pregnancies I just can't seem to drink enough water.. I am ALWAYS thirsty..

Re: Pregnant and Breastfeeding??? - Anyone else............
Hi-
I'm 18 weeks pregnant and breastfeeding my 2 1/2 year old. I noticed that my milk pretty much went away around 14 weeks, though since my daughter is older my supply probably wasn't as much as a mom nursing a baby. My daughter still likes nursing to sleep at night and for her nap, even though she doesn't get anything. I don't think that it makes me more tired, but since I've been pregnant my nipples are really sore so a lot of times nursing is uncomfortable. I've read and my midwife has told me that the most important thing about nursing while pregnant is eating enough protein.

Re: Pregnant and Breastfeeding??? - Anyone else............
Well, I am no longer tandem nursing, but I have nursed through 2 pregnancies and did tandem nurse for 4 1/2+ years...
Both times that I nursed while pregnant my supply did go down, but it did not go completely away. My oldest nursed through my second pregnancy, tandem nursed with her second sister, and weaned when I was pregnant with my third daughter. My second was born tandem nursing, nursed through my third pregnancy and tandem nursed with my third daughter for over 2 years. I am not exactly sure when DD#2 stopped nursing as it was a gradual process and then one day I realized she had not nursed in a while. DD#3 is now 21/2 and is still nursing for what seems like all the time, but I think it seems like "all the time" because for the first time I am nursing a 2 year old I am not nursing an infant who really does nurse all the time...
During my second pregnancy I do not remember having any of the "painful" symptoms or "skin crawling" things that I read about. During my third pregnancy, when my oldest nursed I did feel the "crawling out of my skin" sensations. I think this may be part of why we ended our nursing relationship. I had trouble "handling" it and she was outgrowing the need so we went longer and longer between nursing sessions until we were only nursing at bedtime and then sometimes she would fall asleep waiting for me to come to her bed after I had nursed her sister to sleep. She eventually outgrew the need. Toward the end of the second and throughout the third trimester of my third pregnancy, nursing my 2 year old became painful. It felt like I had knives or broken glass being shoved through my nipples sometimes during latch-on. I would be deep breathing and squeezing the pillows to get through it. Usually after she latched on the pain went away as long as she lay still to nurse. If she was wiggly it was very painful. This type of pain is caused by hormones and not by bad positioning. It went away as soon as soon as the baby was born. The first time I nursed after the baby was born the pain was gone completely!
Tandem nursing was a great way for my older nursling to bond with the new baby both times!!! I would have the older girl lay in my lap with her face near one breast and then lay the baby on her belly facing the other way. I would have my arms under their heads to bring them to the right height. I often had lots of pillows to help hold my elbows up. Many times the girls would fall asleep holding hands or holding each other. It was priceless!!!
Tandem nursing is not for everyone, just as nursing is not for everyone, but for those who do try it and succeed it is an AWESOME experience!!! I am glad that I was able to experience it!!!
In March, I will have been nursing daily for 7 years and over 4 1/2 of those years I was tandem nursing. It has been a wonderful experience!!!

Re: Pregnant and Breastfeeding??? - Anyone else............
Hello everyone! I'm almost 6 weeks pg and I'm still nursing my 11 mo old son. I'm starting him on whole milk this month so he is down to only nursing at night. I find that it is a little painful and makes me really tired while he's actually nursing but not at all when he's not. I'm enjoying the experience so far and want to continue to nurse at his bedtime for as long as he likes.

I am 11 weeks pregnant with my second child and still nursing my 16 month old. I am kind of worried about my milk supply going down though. I really hope it doesnt because a lot of Grayson's (my sons) schedule revolves around breastfeeding still. I have no idea how I am going to get him to sleep without nursing and when/if the milk supply goes down. It might be horrible! I hope all goes well with it. I feel almost guilty that I will have to stop breastfeeding him because I am pregnant again.....sad.

Re: Pregnant and Breastfeeding??? - Anyone else............
Well this is a new topic for me that I didn't think I would be discussing but I have noticed my milk supply going down in the last few weeks but I just thought that it was because my daughter was about to turn a year and my body had enough. Didn't find out until yesterday that I'm PG!! My little girls already starting to reject me for the bottle. Its kind of sad but I want her to have what's best. Still putting her on the breast when she lets me but I don't think it will last for long. As for the tired thing: not really yet but I'm not too far along, give it a few weeks I'm sure.

I have bf during 3 pregnancies. Each time, my supply dropped around 10 weeks. I also have a lot of pain. I was successful once and went onto tandem nurse the two together for a few months. Key is to drink and eat A LOT! Your body will feed the fetus first, the nursling second and you third so expect to be tired and take naps with your LO. Good luck!!!

Re: Pregnant and Breastfeeding??? - Anyone else............
Hi all. For me, sometimes I enjoy the quality time with my baby (10mths) and he seems to enjoy this time for cuddles. Other times I find it so draining and feel really dizzy, thirsty, my nipples are getting sensitive and sometimes it really hurts (particularly when he bites..aw) and at times I need too nap for a few hrs to recover. I'm now 11wks pregnant with my 2nd. Does anyone know if these symptoms go away? I would really like to keep breast feeding for as long as possible - besides I have tried formula and he won't touch it. Its a bit of a worry if I lose milk. Now you guys have comment I have noticed a reduction of milk supply. Good luck everyone! Maybe we should start our own group (big smile_)

Re: Pregnant and Breastfeeding??? - Anyone else............
Hi, again. I just posted on here last week about how my little girl was starting to dislike my milk. Well we've decided to stop BF which is so sad and a relief all at the same time. It's been rough, going on a week now and my breast are so swollen and soar, not to mention the toddler that's constantly tugging at and kicking them. I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice for me on how to stop the milk production faster or even just something to help ease the pain, I've tried icing and I don't think it's working too well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lisa

Hi~
Just from experience I think that the cold Lettace leafs work wonderfully. I breastfed with my first, and am not Bfing w/ my second. With my first my Doc. told me to buy lettace and put it in the fridge, in the way back where its really cold. Then peel two leafs off and wear them in your bra all day. It helps with the discomfort and pain. However it does not make your milk go away insantly. But I thought it helped alot. good luck and hope this helped.

Hi Lisa, I hear what you are saying about having a little one kicking your tummy - no much fun! My cousin went to her doctor and he prescribed her with some tablets to take to dry up her milk - only took 1 day and she didn't suffer any side effects. My advice chat to your Dr good luck J
