    Extreme Colic :(

Mia will be 5 weeks old tomorrow. She cries nonstop. If she is awake, she is crying. She hates her swing and bouncy seat and will barely take a pacifier unless I practically gag it down her. She does like the sling, so I carry her around everywhere in that. My three year old also had colic as a baby, but only cried between 4 and 10 pm at night. This is ALL the time crying. If she's not sleeping or on the boob, she is crying. I've tried gas drops, but they don't seem to be working. I am just so upset that I'm having to go through this again. It is sheer hell and even worse this time around because I have a needy 3 year old. :(

I;m so sorry that you are going through this.  I wish I had some advice but other than the sling which you are already using I have nothing.  Have you tried gripe water?

1st of all relax, breeeeeeeeeeeeeaathe! Is she wetting and pooping regularly?

It could be growth spurts every 2 weeks which she needs to eat more.

It could be what  you are eating. Like acidic foods, go bland for a while nothing spicy.

I was taking extra calcium for afterbirth pain which works and it caused all 5 of mine to have major gas and cried alot. When I figured it out I stopped and no more exssesive crying. I did not do extra calcium with the last 4.

oh i am so sorry! my DD had colic from 11ish to 4 or 5 am EVERY night for weeeeeeeks and weeeeeeeeks when she was little. It started at 3 weeks and didn't end no where near fast enough! i wish i knew of magical advice for you...but I don't! My DS has what I think is a touch of colic himself this go round and just last night I tried out the colic tablets....got em from rite aid, they were part of what I used for DD during her episodes. It's FDA approved from there.... there is gripe water some ppl say works? I only tried it once with DD and it helped for a few minutes but then bam! back to crying.... I'd give it a try though, just make sure you find the kind that's FDA approved, I believe coliccalm.com has some. That has got to be so frustrating and miserable to have your little one so unhappy right now, esp with a toddler to handle too! I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy if I had one! But if it makes your feel any better....my baby isn't always happy and has been a fussy crying squirming in pain lil' guy from 11 to 1ish at night now....and it seems to get a little worse every night! Oh and as you probably know since you've handled it before...if you are drinking milk, STOP! Otherwise, just wait it out sadly... this too shall pass! Hugs and prayers for a healthy happy baby tummy soon!

I'm so sorry you are going through this!  I actually gave up breast pumping -- something in my milk was making my baby have colic.  The formula produces gas.,.. but simple mylicon works for that.  She's 100% Happier.

However, the doctor recomended probiotics to help  - which seem to help with her pooping better.  There is a brand out there that makes probiotic drops.

One bit of advice I can give...  if you need a break - TAKE IT....  Put your baby in a safe place (crib), put on earplugs for 5 minutes and walk away (also doctor recommended).  I know it sounds horrid -- but if you are stressed out and worn out -- your baby will feel it and will be too.

Good luck... Keep in mind, this too shall pass *hug*
