    First signs!

Is anyone else doing signing with their little one? Coben is starting to do his first signs.

He gets super constipated and it hurts him a LOT to poop sometimes. The other day I was changing him and helping him get the poop out. He was crying so hard and started signing what looked like "all done".  I chalked it up to possibly just being a coincidence although he's never done any kind of hand motion before. But then yesterday I lifted up my shirt to feed him and he started signing "milk" like crazy. I said, "you want milk?" and signed back to him and he started giggling and flapping his arms. We can converse!!!!

Anyone else doing or planning to do sign?

That's great, Paula! Sorry to hear about his constipation problem :( Poor little guy! I half-a** sign with Lilly.. I guess I should start being more cosistent if I want her to catch on! She calls me Mama and MEANS it now, though, so that is pretty exciting :) She waves bye-bye, but never in time. She does it shortly after the person is gone haha. I've been trying to teach her "eat", but she hasn't caught on yet. Like I said, though, I've haven't been very consistent with it. Go Coben! :P

I did a little bit with Hunter, but haven't done it much with Ethan. Where do you get the basic signs? I remember doing "more" with Hunter, then finding out that the sign we were doing was actually "Jesus" he he he! So I just would like to know where you get the signs you are doing...I taught Hunter please, thank you, more, and all done. I am not sure I remember much more than that, though....

Way to go Coben for being such a good learner! Sweet boy! And Jen, I am WAY inconsistent, too. I reckon it's all this free time I have....yeah right!

    Re: First signs!

I'm just using the basic signs that I can remember with my daughter b/c I don't remember the other ones (except for dog, boat, cat, shoe)

A friend of mine taught me the easy ones (eat, drink, more, all done, please and thank you) and then I bought the My Baby Can Sign videos which I recommend above all others. I haven't shown them to Coben yet but my daughter loved them and took off with signing. I also kept a picture signing dictionary on my table (library is great for this!) that I would look in when I wanted to figure out a quick sign that I didn't know.
