Re: *** July Firecrackers 2007 Birth Stories ***

    Puddin1985's Angel

It all started on Sunday night when I went to work.  I started having abdominal pains at around 10pm.  I worked all night until 6am (nothing major is involved in my job, I'm a correctional officer, so at night all we do is basically nothing, I sit in a chair for 8 hours) By 6am the pain hadn't gone away & I kept feeling as though I needed to have a bowel movement, so I came home & went to the bathroom.  I hadn't spotted all night, but when I looked down at home, there was a little blood.

After using the bathroom I felt a lot better (had been feeling a lot of pressure all night, so I just figured I really needed to go to the bathroom).  Around 8am I felt like I really needed to urinate so I jumped out of bed & ran to the bathroom just in time.  Once I went something (I'm still not sure what) came out, but I was unable to see what exactly it was because somehow if just drifted on down the drain before I flushed.   Basically it looked like a large bubble & I automatically assumed it had been the baby.  So, of course I started freaking out, crying & going crazy.  I called my dr's office & she wanted to see me right away, so I went in & she checked for the heartbeat & found it.  She sent me to have an u/s done at 11:30.

When I finally got to the point of getting the u/s done I was told that my amniotic fluid looked very low & that the baby was very close to my cervix, but I'd have to be examined to know if I was starting to dialate or not, or if something else was going on.  There was still a hb of 165bpm &  They sent me up to L&D & a nurse examined me and told me that unfortunately my little one was already starting to come out.  Crying <img src=">  Being so early (15w3d) and considering that I had already started losing my fluid it was inevitable.  The dr. showed up and examined me & tried to help get the baby out, which was one of the worst feelings I've ever felt in my life.  Not only from the physical pain, but the emotional pain as well.  I finally couldn't take it anymore & told him I needed more time, so he left for a while & the nurse continued to check on me.

At 1:51pm on Monday, January 29, 2007 our baby girl was born sleeping.  I was able to hold her, she was so tiny weighing only 2.8oz & measuring at 6 1/4inches long.

I sat there exhausted for the next few hours (hadn't slept since about 3pm Sunday) waiting for the placenta to come out & finally had to have a D&C done, which surprisingly made things a lot easier.  I'm not in any pain & I am not bleeding very much.  I was kind of groggy all day so I'm not quite sure what is going on, but I know they mentioned something about abdominal abnormality & that some genetics dr is going to try to find out as much as he can.

thank you Jes...yes my little guy just couldnt seem to wait....looks like my placenta was having some problems...here is my story

hmm...well nothing has been typical with this pregnancy as you all have been praying for us from the get go...well tuesday morning May 8, 2007 I went to my reg drs appt with my follow up ultra sound at 9am...baby showed only 4 oz growth in the two week period...and my blood pressure was up again..they wanted me to go to the hospital..i was admited and in my room by 11:30am...they did more u/s another level two to get more accurate info on baby size and weight..they were showing baby at 2 pounds 15 ozs...............but  he was active and looking good....did blood work..collected my urine for 24 hrs and started me on the steroid shots .... well the goal was keeping me in the hospital and see if we could keep me to 34 weeks...so i was ok with that....well thursday afternoon with all my drs..all the test results and the neonatel team they decided it wasnt worth the risk for two more weeks vs taken baby  now...so they were going to give me this pill thursday night that would soften and and shorten my cervix and poticin first thing in the am friday morning...well baby wasnt liking the pill that night and i had a few decels in his h/b so they stoped that treatment and were going for stirictly poticin that next morning....i was a wreck of course...and we were scheduled number 8 for labor and delivery...well the rooms were all tied up with active labor all day..finally at 3pm i get wheeled down...and me and dr and dh had a long long talk....with how baby was reacting with the other drug we figured it would be 80% chance that baby would react same or worse with pictucin but we wouldnt know till i start having contractions..so after thinking about everything and going through hours of labor and then maybe end up with a c section...we decided to just have the c section...

the spinal was a peice of cake!! didnt hurt..but the strangest sensation i ever felt in my life!!  i was a nervous wreck...would baby cry..would baby be breathing?  how will he be? etc....well he came out kicking and screaming..and dh just balled and cried....tears of joy!!!  here is the video of dh cutting the cord!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCYcckF7Cvc  his apgar scores were 8/9.. after baby paul was cleaned up he was still breathing on his own..he weighed 2 pounds 10 ozs and was 15 inches long (he is a long baby!)  he ended up on cpap in nicu for about four hours..then oxygen for two hours and after that he was breathing on his own!  still is!! his lung xrays showed his lungs were developed 100% Praise the Lord...he is so tiny but his skin is so smooth and his complexion is perfect!  He is so darn cute...and red hair!!  red blonde hair!!!!!!  he is getting one iv but he is strictl;y on mommys breast milk...he has no medical issues or sickness..he is just perfect but tiny!!!!!!  we just need to get him all plumped up so he can come home!!!!!!

Our first set of July twins (born in May!) Congratulations to Joyceann!

    http://community.pregnancyweekly.com/forums/thread/14394911.aspx

On Wednesday I was having what I thought was BH thoughout the day.  Around 7:30 that evening the contractions went to about 6 minutes apart.  I still thought they were BH.  DH said lets go to the hospital just to be sure.  I called the hospital about 9:oo and told them what was going on and jokingly said I'll come in to be checked so they will go away.  I got there and they checked me and the contractions were 3 min apart and I was 3 to 4 cm dialated. I just about sh** my pants.  They called in the dr. and gave me meds to try and stop them.  The dr. came in and did an ultrasound and found out that Landon had once again turned and was breech and I was 4 cm. It was now about 11:20 and the dr. decided to call Life Flight to transfer me to a hospital with a NICU.  I have never in my life been in an airplane or helipoctor before, so I am now bawling and freaking out.  I arrived at Miami Valley hospital at 12:02. The dr. there checked me and I was now 4 to 5 cm and he did an ultra sound and found the Landons umbilical cord was down under him and if my water broke the cord would come out first. He said he would check my dialtion in a little while and if I progessed any more he would do and emergency c-section.  Next check I was now at a 5 and off I went to surgery.

Landon was born at 3:02 weighing in at 4 lbs 15 oz.  Dakota was born at 3:04 weighing in at 4lbs 4 ozs. Both boys had an 8 and 9 on their apgar. Later Dakota was put on the cpap and Landon was breathing well on his own.

The boys are both still in Nicu and I was released today.  They are and hour away from home.

Dakota has since went on a nasal canula, the valve in his heart the closes at birth has not yet closed, he gets another ultrasound in the morning and if it has since closed he can begin to feed. His billirubin went to a 14 today so he was put under the lights.

Landon is feeding and and if he maintains his temps,  he will be able to come home soon.

I will be calling the Ronald McDonald house tomorrow to see about staying there so I can be as close to them as possible.

As for me I was doing super, no pain meds or anything until I coughed really hard this morning and cracked a rib.  Dr. gave me a script for percecet for the pain.

Sorry this turned out so long and thanks for the many congrats.

sandradlrs had her baby boy on May 14th, congrats!

"I had my baby And Thank God he is doing well!  I had him on Monday May 14th and he weighed 3lbs 15 ozs and was 18 inches long and his name is Phillip Seth.  He is still in the NICU but he's breathing on his own, they took out his IV, and he's taking in a little over an ounce in breast milk every three hours. All we're wating on now is for him to be able to regulate his temperature on his own and for him to hit 34 weeks on May 29th so they can test his suck, swallow, and breathe reflex when given a bottle.  This all happened so quickly that I'm still in shock......I started to leak amniotic fluid on Sunday May 6th and was checked into the hospital on May 7th for total bedrest.  Unfortunately, with all the antibiotics given it wasn't enough to prevent an infection so I went into labor exactly one week later....we had absolutely nothing ready for him...baby showers were still to come and I was working on finishing up my degree this month for graduation.  As much as I'm supposed to be taking it easy because of the c-section I'm trying to keep myself distracted because I miss him so much, I know he's okay and he's getting excellent care but it's hard being home without him.  Sigh.....on that note I'm going to go and finish getting his clothes ready, seems he's ready to wear clothes now since they're working on helping him regulate his temperature.  Just wanted to share with you the last two weeks."

Our little baby just couldnt wait to see us. I was due July 14th and she arrived on May 17th.

I was sitting in my living room on Tuesday May 15th when my water broke. I called my midwife and she told me to get to the hospital right away. My husband packed things quickly - I didnt have my hospital bag ready yet - and we were at the hospital within 30 minutes of the initial gush. I started contracting after an hour at the hospital but they were able to stop it. We talked about me staying in the hospital for a couple of weeks until baby was ready but in the meantime they gave me the steroid shot to mature baby's lungs followed by a 2nd shot 24 hours later. Thank goodness because I went into labour again Thursday morning. They decided not to stop it the 2nd time. I was 31weeks and 4days into the pregnancy and they said that although that was early, the baby had a good chance of being ok. It was hard to deal with that but when it happened, I just trusted the doctors and my midwife to tell me what was best. I had contractions for hours and then they got really bad. Really really bad. I couldnt bear to move even the slightest because it would trigger a contraction. I'm not going to go into detail except to say the contractions were very long and intense. Everyone is different and the doctors said there were reasons for mine being (shall we say) extensive. We delayed with the epidural because for a few hours we still hoped that I would stop on my own. But after a while it was unbearable and they sent in the dr with the magic needle. Getting the epidural was a piece of cake after the pain of the contractions. Of course, then I felt quite numb and according to my mom, I said "gee, I wish I could feel just a bit more". Apparently I was too preoccupied to hear the grandparents laughing at this. Kevin stood by me the whole time. At one point, he said i squeezed his arm so tight that his hand started to go numb. After that, he said he made sure I could only grip a couple of his fingers each time.

Once I got the epidural, they checked me and I was fully dilated. But after pushing for a while (i dont remember how long) the baby wasnt coming out. They told me it was best to do a c-section. The baby was getting distressed and they needed to act. The c-section was easy. I felt so supported with Kevin there and 11 - yes that's eleven - dr's and nurses in the room. when my sweet baby girl came out, she was shown to me for about 3 seconds as they swooped her over to the pediatric team who got her breathing. she actually had a good apgar - 6/10 but needed help as her lungs were not quite ready. with assistance, she was breathing and stabilizing within seconds. And thus our little Kaitlyn entered the world at 3lbs 5oz on May 17th at 10pm. Actually she was 1495 grams which is between 3lbs 4oz and 5oz but I thought you'd appreciate the conversion from metric. She is also quite long at about 16 inches.

She is now one week old and has progressed so well with only a few bumps in the road. She was off the ventilator within 2 days and onto cpap and then on high flow for another couple days. Basically, that means they had to help her breathe but eventually she did more on her own and now she is breathing normal room air without any assistance. They had her on intravenous for the first 6 days but now she can get what she needs through her feeding tube - so no more i.v. she is fed through a tube which goes in her nose and right to her tummy. her first feeds were 2ccs. now they are 20 cc's. I am pumping every 3-4 hours and supplying her with breast milk. yesterday both my husband and I got to hold her skin to skin for the first time. we have also been able to change her diaper which is a whole new challenge when done through holes in the incubator while working around the wires that monitor her heart rate and breathing. We are truly fortunate that our local hospital has one of the best NICU/preemie teams in the country.

I am doing well in my own recovery and visit her every day. I only go twice so I dont tire her or myself out. But when I am with her - especially holding her - I feel better than I ever have in my entire life. It's like my wedding and vacations and a beautiful sunny day all at the same time. I love my baby Kaitlyn

    proud mommy Jen

Congratulations to LindseyandRich on the birth of her twin sons on 5/24/07
    Nathan Anthony & Kevin Alexandar.

    http://community.pregnancyweekly.com/forums/thread/14495426.aspx

Hey ladies - not much time to post this morning, but I wanted to give you an update....

My baby boys decided to arrive last Thursday 5/24, about 1:30pm...  I will post pics hopefully later this week.

Thursday AM I was on my way to work and started getting some really bad cramps.  I had noticed an increased amount of discharge, with some blood.  I called my doctor mid morning, when the cramps would not subside.  By the time I got to L&D (about 1 hour away from home), I was checked and quickly moved to do a c-section....  I was fully dialiated, and Nathan's bag was bulging out the cervix.  There was fear that cord or feet could come first, so they moved me to the OR.

My sister had driven me to the hospital, and I had her call my husband at work and tell him to get there ASAP....  He arrived just as they were getting ready to cut.

Nathan Anthony arrived at 1:38 pm weighing 3lbs 11 oz.  He was 16 1/4 inches long.

Kevin Alexandar arrived at 1:40 pm weighing 3lbs 8 oz.  He was 16 1/2 inches long.

Both are doing great for being so early.  They were only on the respirator for 7 hours after birth, and have been getting stronger and stronger every day.  I was discharged yesterday, but I am heading up to stay near the hospital while they are in the NICU for the next few weeks.  They should be off IV's today and strictly feeding (still thru tubes, but we are getting better)....

I will try to post more and pics later this week.  I am doing good, but get a little emotional despite the fact that they are doing so well....

Take care & I will try to keep you posted.

    Lindsey

    pictures http://community.pregnancyweekly.com/forums/post/14554027.aspx

Sorry it took so long to update....  I have been staying in our RV in the hospital parking lot to be close to the NICU, especially since I can't drive... I can't get a signal out there, so I only can update on days I come home..

Nathan and Kevin are doing great....  They are still quite small, though they just reached their birthweight again today, and that is not to shabby...  they still will need a couple of weeks in the NICU to grow and to learn how to "nipple"... they are eating through tubes right now that are put through their noses and down into the belly...

I spend most of my time by their side and help in any way I can.  The nurses let me bathe them, change them, take temps, feed them (through the tubes), and of course hold them.  We should be able to try breast feeding this next week.... for now I wake up every 3 hours to pump...  Not the greatest, but I guess you do what you have to do as a mom!

I have attached a few pics (sorry if they are too big)... the first two were when they were 3 days old, the others are at about a week old... they are doing really great, and I appreciate all your kind words of encouragement.  I will keep checking in when I can, and will try to post some pics each week!

    Take care - Lindsey
