  Baby ears pierced Reply Contact I know lots of people don't agree with it but its their own thought on it and everyone has a right to their opinion. I want to hear others thought on it. I want to get my daughters ears pierce she will be 4 months in a couple days. The dr said wait until she gets her 2nd shot and we will talk. its my choice and i bet she will want them done and will be happy I did it early. I want to do them early so I can clean them and take care of them while shes little so she wont touch them and get them infected. What do you think?

  josy Joined on 04-21-2008 Posts 2	Re: Baby ears pierced Reply Contact well its not a bad idea coz i too got my elder babys ears pierced when she was three month,so go for it.Only check as to what her skin agrees to coz some dont agree to gold some to artificial so just be alert.When piercing do with a whoever has the machine so one shot n its done.

I know it shouldn't hurt its so quick. But who knows someone could come talking next. Thanx though I wanted to hear the good.

  Re: Baby ears pierced Reply Contact Actually I got my girls ears pierced at 6 mths, and she loves them and she is so wonderful for cleaning them and taking care of them that if I had another girl I would do it again. I went to our local drug store and bought emla cream, hospitals normally use it for intervience on kids but it works great for ears it just numbs them, they don't feel a thing and make sure where ever you take her to ask if they have two people doing it at the same time because it is much easier if they have two guns for it then one at a time.

  Re: Baby ears pierced Reply Contact Hi.I just thought I'd share this with you.I got my ears pierced when I was 28days old and I am ok.My older daughter who is now 2 was born in New Zealand and we did hers too on her 28th day.She didn't even realise it and still has her ear studs on.We came to the USA in 2006 and had our second daughter last august .Here in the USA we were advised that we should wait until she had her first set of immunisation and so we waited until she was three months.we also checked with the ear piercing place and they too would only pierce it after the child had the first set of immunisations.There really is no evidence but I guess because it is in the USA everything is litigation related and people are extra cautious.So I wish you the best and congrats if your child has hers pierced.By the way our second daughter who is now 10 months had just winced a bit after getting hers pierced and there were two ladies on either side and they pierced it simultaneously whereas our older one had her one at a time.I think the older one felt less that the younger one.A few tips for your info.Regards,Shai

  Re: Baby ears pierced Reply Contact I am a mother of a 22 month old and I have her ears pierced and I think it is okay to do that because then you know that you will take care of them so that they will not get infected! I am also pregent with my second child a little girl and I plan to get her ears pierced when she is 2 or 4 months old because the yonger they are the less likely they are to remember and will get over it a lot faster.

  Re: Baby ears pierced Reply Contact All of my girls got their ear's peirced when they recieved their two month shots. I figure that its easier to care for no long hair to get tangled and infected. When they are older you cant 100% trust that they know how to care for them unless they are really older. And if they dont like them its such a small hole they can take them out. But really not too many girls dont like them :) Your child your choice.

  Re: Baby ears pierced Reply Contact I don't even have children yet- expecting my first... and I would never presume to tell you what to do with your child... but I thought I would point out that ear piercing may not be something she is even interested in later... I am thinking about my gay brother for example and imagining, for instance, a gay female child (who may or may not want pierced ears)... In my opinion I think it can be a mistake to try to genderize the child before they are old enough to exert a preference, but I am not judging you for whatever choice you would make... Good luck either way!

I don't think its that.  I think that people don't like to do it without the child's permission.. even though the holes close she will have a permanate mark there for her life.  It is altering their appearence so some moms like to wait until they can decide for themselves.    My mom took us at 6.

I don't think you should do it until the child is old enough to take care of them on her own. Also, what if she goes up to be a complete tom boy and hates it? She'll end up taking them out and the hole will close up.

  Re: Baby ears pierced Reply Contact i think you should do whatever you feel comfortable with. some people believe you should wait until your child can decide for them self and others do it when their babies are infants. i had my daughters done at 4 months and i am glad i did. my sister waited with her dd until 3 and when she took her my dd said she wanted it done my sister paid $50 for the earrings and such and then my dd wouldnt even let the lady mark her ear. so my sister spent the money for nothing. i find the posts that say you should wait until the child can decide interesting because at what age can a child make that decision? at 6 yrs old you dont really understand its forever and going to leave a mark if you decide later you dont want it. i think if you want to wait until your child can decide then wait until they are 12 or 13 when they will really understand what it is to have a piercing. one of the other reasons i choose to do it when i did was because i was afraid at a later age i would have to fight with my dd to take care of them. now its over and done and i dont have to worry about them. i had mine done at 5 and would not let my mom take care of them and my mom took them out. i do have mine pierced today but i didnt get them done again until  about 12. good luck with whatever you decide!

That is also the age she can take care of them on her own and when I think it should be done. That's also the age that yshe will let the person mark up and pierce the ears without fighting and wasting money.

  Re: Baby ears pierced Reply Contact I remember getting my ears pierced when I was approximately 4 years old. It was something that I wanted to do, not something that was forced upon me. It was in a mall department store, and I remember there were women standing nearby watching, and they were amazed that I didn't cry at all. I do remember it stinging when we walked away from the counter and the burning when my mom cleaned them with alcohol. I think it's a good idea to do it early so that mom can clean them appropriately, but it's also not a bad idea to wait until the child shows some interest in having it done. I remember part of the fun of getting my ears pierced at that age was getting to pick out several new pairs of earrings. I think of all the posts, the EMLA cream was the best advice to use at any age! I'm having a baby girl, and I will probably do as my mom did, and wait until she shows some interest.

  Re: Baby ears pierced Reply Contact  My own personal view is to let the child decide.  It's her body-- would you want someone altering your body for you without your consent?  That said, I've read somewhere that it's best to wait until the baby is at least 2 months old, and yours is old enough by those recommendations.  I'm not quite sure why the article said 2 months, I'm assuming they're projecting some immunity at that age to help battle an infection if one developed.  If you're willing to take on the extra responsibility, it's ultimately your choice.  I have 3 daughters and only 1 has her ears pierced, and only because she showed interest in them.  I was 5 when I had mine done the first time, and I don't remember them hurting all that much.  My 4-year-old screamed like her arm had been chopped off.
