I remember getting my ears pierced when I was approximately 4 years old. It was something that I wanted to do, not something that was forced upon me. It was in a mall department store, and I remember there were women standing nearby watching, and they were amazed that I didn't cry at all. I do remember it stinging when we walked away from the counter and the burning when my mom cleaned them with alcohol. I think it's a good idea to do it early so that mom can clean them appropriately, but it's also not a bad idea to wait until the child shows some interest in having it done. I remember part of the fun of getting my ears pierced at that age was getting to pick out several new pairs of earrings. I think of all the posts, the EMLA cream was the best advice to use at any age! I'm having a baby girl, and I will probably do as my mom did, and wait until she shows some interest.
