    Question - pregnant now

Hi.  My name is Diana.  I'm a mom on Oct 06 board, May 08 board, and now I'm on the June 09 board.  I'm 9.5 weeks pregnant, but I'm measuring 20 weeks.  My beta levels also suggest multiples.  They did an ultrasound to check for fibroids and tumors but found none, and saw only one baby, but said that there could be another one hiding and that we can't rule it out until the 20 week ultrasound.  With both my dd's I measured right on track the whole time.  What is the likelyhood that there is another one they didn't see (this particular ultrasound was one where there is no color for the heartbeat)?  I've already felt movement, which I don't until normally 22 weeks (and I'm sure it wasn't gas). Do I need to be thinking more in the lines of more than one and be prepared, or just go with they see one so thats all there is?  So confused, thank you.  Oo and I have already started having heartburn and my ribs hurt like crazy from everything being pushed up so fast.  That normally doesn't start happening until mid pregnancy for me as well.

    Congrats on your pregnancy!

Wow, you are really measuring far ahead!  My OB didn't even start measuring me until 20 weeks so I don't know how that compares to me.  Did your dates match the gestational age according to your ultrasound?

It seems as though you are having a lot of the symptoms associated with multiple pregnancy, but the only way to know for sure is through ultrasound.

    Good luck!

    Emily

They said the baby they found was measuring perfect (to the day) as far as timing of lmp and conception.  I had always been told in subsequent pregnancy one or two centimeters was normal to measure ahead, but never that far.

I am suprised they would wait until 20 weeks.  Diagnostic ultrasounds are usually covered before that without a problem.  I would want to know for sure.

Congratulations on your pregnancy -- Emily is right -- you are showing a lot of signs of a multiple pregnancy so it's not something you can rule out.  However, the only way to know for sure is an u/s.  Can you ask your doc to do another one soon, just to know?

What I've been told (don't know how true it is) is that during a 3rd pregnancy, women TEND to "pop" much sooner, which would explain why you are measuring so far along, even for a single pregnancy.  One of my best friends is expecting her 3rd in February and measured much further along by 10 weeks than she did with the other 2 (nearly 20 weeks per measurement) -- she's a doula and said that this is normal for a 3rd pregnancy.  Again, I don't know if this is really true.

Either way, I wish you a happy, healthy, and long pregnancy.  Please feel free to post here anytime....

    All the best,
    Ilene

Maybe that's why I popped out at 6 weeks this time around.  I know it's our fourth and all but I never expected people to notice I was showing that early!

    Re: Question - pregnant now

I would be asking my dr for another u/s. At 10 weeks we knew we were having twins and by 14 weeks we knew they were both boys. With the baby (Child #4, 3rd pregnancy) I popped WAY early and by 12/14 weeks my close friends and co-workers were teasing me "are you sure its not twins again?!?"

The relationship I had w/ my OB was great. I knew if something like this came up she would come up with a reason to put in the chart of why I needed another u/s so insurance would cover it. She kept me in the hospital days longer than she normally would've when the boys were in NICU.

Either way, good luck, congratulations and I wish you a long, healthy pregnancy!!

It sounds like it could be twins but like the others said, you will only know for sure by having another ultrasound.  I was able to see 2 sacs at my 6 week ultrasound so that's how I knew.  I wouldn't be able to wait that long for your next appt.  Maybe they can do the ultrasound sooner!  Make sure to let us know what you find out!
