    no milk or eggs

Hey mamas. I just found out last week that my 14 month old is allergic to milk and eggs. I knew about the eggs but the milk was a shock. He can not eat anything with milk or eggs for a year and then we will test him again to see if he outgrew them. The doctor said they normally do. I am new to this so I have noooo idea what to feed my son. EVERYTHING has either milk or eggs. I am feeling overwhelmed right now~

My 5 year old is allergic, and I mean anaphylactic to eggs, milk, peanuts, also allergic to cats, dogs, several trees and grasses, etc, so I completely understand your frustrations. Ask your allergist for a sheet with ingredients you need to be aware of (hidden milk derivatives like sodium caseinates, whey, caramel color.) It's usually pretty thorough. As for foods your toddler can eat, potatoes have been our friend! (No french fries from Mcdonalds, they have milk derivatives in them and he may not visibly react, but his airways will!) Lots of chicken, veggies, meat variations and fruit are going to be your new best friends. In case he has a birthday during this, there are cakes without those ingredients made by CherryBrook Kitchen. Kroger sells them. And as for a good cheat snack? Regular OREOS! You are now an official label reader, my friend. Hopefully he'll outgrow them soon.

sorry i am just now writing back..in all of my research I lost this website and forgot to come back and check. my email is Paigesc@comcast.net so if you could email me on that I would get it right away..I have so many questions and you might be able to help me some. I knew he was allergic to the eggs because when he first had them he had a really bad reaction, then on his first birthday he got the hives from his cake..but the milk I was sooo supirsed. He ate things with milk in them all the time like yogurt, cheese, all KINDS of stuff..and I never noticed a reaction like with the eggs..so I am just wondering how he can be allergic...like how does the milk effect him?? I never noticed it giving him a runny nose, stuff like that.. The doctor told me to avoid these food for the next year all together and then we'll test him again. The eggs I understand because I could see how it really effected him..but the milk products he ate all the time..ugg its just a lot all at once..! And I got an epipen that I have to carry around ..well a jrepipen..and i'm wondering how will I know with him if I ever have to use it. I described the time he reacted with the eggs and he told me I should've used it then...but what if i cant see his tongue swelling up..but he is broken out in hives w/the swollen eyes like before?? will it hurt him if i give him the epipen ? haha you really dont have to answer all this..I am going to have to call my doctor tomorrow...it was so much to take in during that visit and i was suprised..now all the questions are coming!

The best thing I can advise is to go to some vegetarian web sites.  They will usually post some recipes that are milk and egg free, and taste pretty good.  Sorry your little one is having reactions to these foods.  Hopefully all will go well and he will grow out of the allergies.  Good luck with everything!

My daughter is actually really allergic to milk and soy.....we didn't know it until it had ruined her intestines and she stopped absorbing food and water and had a 2 1/2 week hospital stay....Talk about scary bc at first the docs couldn't pin point what was making her so sick....when i need a new receipe i go to the MSPI mama blog the website is.... http://mspimama.blogspot.com/ I got a cake idea here for my daughter and pancakes etc....I know at first it's really overwhelming but you will get through it and it will just become a way of life.... Oh we found that McDonald's and Wendy's plain hamburgers (NO BUNS) are actually ok.....they're just made with meat, salt, and pepper.....and we just get apple dippers as her side so she can have the fun of a happy meal.....
