Chance had his six month WBV today. He is in the 48th percentile in
weight and 52nd percentile on height without adjusting for his 35 week
birth. He is ahead on gross motor milestones, pushing up on his knees
and sitting up without help as well as all the normal rolling,
grabbing, holding, etc. Our pedi is very pro breastfeeding but I still
feel iffy about her advice. Chance was sleeping through the night (7-8
hours, waking up and going down for 2-3 more) until 10 days ago. Now he
is up every 3 or 4 hours. She told me that he should be making up any
growth spurt feedings during the day with maybe one extra night waking
but he really shouldn't need to be up at night. She said he shouldn't
go less than at least a six hour stretch to start the night. She wants
me to cluster nurse him in the evening at 6, 8 and 10 to see if he will
start sleeping better. She also said he should only be nursing about 6
times in 24 hours....good luck getting this baby to even go three hours
between feedings. I need him to sleep more but the whole six hour thing
and making up for growth spurts during the day bugs me. She told me to
have DH try to soothe him back to sleep and if he does nurse to give
him a short feeding instead of dozing and letting him nurse for a full
feeding at night. She is all about gentle sleep guidance at least, she
didn't tell me to let him CIO. He has a skin tag in his mouth that is
long enough for him to gum. She said he is too little to do anything
about it (since there is no way to make him hold still) and that a
dentist may tie it off at some point. I am worried about what will
happen when he gets teeth and bites it. The kicker is the pedi tried
to tell me to feed him an 8oz bottle of EBM before bed. He has never
had more than 4-5 ounces at a time, he would just puke up the last
three ounces if I tried.
All in all, though, it was an excellent visit. Chance is a happy,
healthy little boy who is changing by the day. He looks so much like
Patience at this age!
Christian is 2 weeks away from his evaluation for the sensory issues. He has also been seeing an opthomologist since December. He saw her today. His strabismus isn't improving and his good eye is getting weaker. We got yet another lense prescription for him (the third in six months). He has been wearing bifocals for the past three months and is going back to single vision lenses. He was being patched for the past six months and is taking a break from that to give the good eye a chance to rest. The poor kid has too much going on. In other news he is doing an amazing job reading still, he can count backward from 100 and probably from a thousand since he can count by 10's to 1000. He is such a little puzzle.
Patience has a temper that just won't be controlled but she is so much fun. She has an amazing vocabulary and understanding of language. She loves to draw and makes pictures that are anatomically correct. Imagine the horror when she drew portraits of Grandy and Poppy with genitalia :D She is a charmer and everyone (who doesn't have to live with her) thinks she is a doll.
I included the link to our website at the bottom of my signature. I am too tired to update it with pics from the past couple of weeks but will do so in the next few days.
