I need tips for a twin pregnancy through IVF

Hello all: I am a mommy to be through a surrogate. We are expecting twins and my surrogate is very frightened of carrying our twins, since she is only 4'11" tall. She has 2 children, one is 2 and the other is 4 years old. They were both between 5-6 pounds when born and were 3 weeks early. I need any tips I can give her to be able to carry our twins for as long as possible. We are just starting our 12th week of pregnancy and the twins are fraternal, but we don't know the gender(s) yet. We just want two healthy babies and are very excited to be parents. These 2 children will be our only two and the first for us. My husband, Rick, and I, Terri have been married for 3 years and 3 months, and started planning our family 6 months before we got married. We tried ever since then to get pregnant, naturally, through me and IVF, and then decided on surrogacy. Well, that's all for now. Thanks, in advance, for any help that you post. I will check back periodically. Terri Dobrofsky

First let me say congratulations.  To conceive my twins was a four year battle with infertility so I know that joy you feel when it happens.  My best advice is for her to eat a high protein diet.  Protein is the building block for those developing bodies.  I am surprised a woman with a history of small babies that come early was up for surrogacy but it doesn't sound like they were terribly small and certainly not terribly early.  Every pregnancy is different.  When I was pregnant with my twins I was terrified that I would deliver too early.  I delivered at 37 1/2 weeks a 5 pounds 7 ounces girl and 7 pounds 1 ounce boy.  Then almost exactly 4 years after conceiving the twins through IUI I got pregnant on my own with a singleton, I had a healthy pregnancy with no problems at all but went into labor and delivered him at 35 weeks 3 days, he was 6 pounds 15 ounces.   There are some good books about carrying multiples available.  Also, I would recommend when she starts getting big to invest in a prenatal cradle, it is a maternity belt but it works better than the regular bands.  Another idea is for her to get a membership to an indoor pool and spend some time each day moving through water that is around chest deep to get the pressure off of her cervix, it will also help her comfort level a lot.  Welcome to the board.  Sometimes it is slow but the women here are wonderful and worth waiting for.

Congratulations!  I agree with a high protein diet.  Add in plenty of fruits and veggies, high fiber foods (to help minimize constipation), lots of water/fluids and rest.  Our babies came 6wks early and weighed 4lbs 12oz BUT they were healthy!  I am only 5ft so I'm tiny too.  I was all belly at the end Big Smile

Oh, take LOTS of pictures!!  It's amazing how much change occurs month to month in pregnancy.

Thanks Jennifer for the info. It will be helpful to my surrogate and give her some encouragement. One question only, if you have the time. When you said that your babies came 6 wks early, was that 6 weeks before your due date for a singleton or at what week were they born? Thanks. Terri

Sorry it took me so long to get back on here - our sons play football so we're always at practice or games - and then running around with the girls.  Anywho, to the point, they came at 34wks gestation.  I was due towards the end of August and they came on 7/16.  How are things going?
