Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
My doc said the rule of thumb is if they are sleeping through the night at 5 months then you wait until 6months. If they aren't sleeping through the night at 5 months then you can start then. I believe you just start with rice/oat/grain cereal. I would call the nurse at your peds office and ask what they suggest. At 3 months though the baby should just be on breast milk or formula. Good Luck.
God Bless!

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
Babies shouldn't be on food till 4 or 6 months, preferably 6. They start with rice or some other grain cereal once a day, or you can skip the cereal and start with easy foods proven not to cause stomach issues for most babies (bananas, avocado, apple, etc). They won't eat much till quite awhile after unless they are one of the babies that love food like mine.

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
I can't believe anyone would tell you to start feeding your baby solids at only 3 months. That's crazy! Maybe 20 or 30 years ago, when parents were poorly educated, and pediatricians were no better! I wouldn't even consider feeding anything from a jar to your baby until after 5 months, preferably after 6. I started my son on homemade solids between 6 and 7 months, and realized he really wasn't ready, so I held off again till around 7.5 months, when he had a few teeth, and could easly accept and swallow mushy fruit and veggies. Even then, he was really only eating them in place of maybe 2 nursings, the equivilent of maybe 2-3 or so ounces a day. They work their way up from there, but you really have to start slow with foods like that. Also, if you're still nursing, you can add your own breastmilk to the mixture, so it's more liquidy and easier for your baby to digest, since starting new foods may be constipating. Good luck!

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
Well my seven month old started eating baby food (organic or Gerber) at three months and now she is seven months loving solids or whatever I eat. Her poop is fine never constipated. She sleeps through the night and still takes her fromula. I think its whenever your child is ready and if he or she will take it. Also when they eat it, if it digest well and does not give your child any problems. Thats what I went by. But I did start off with cereal and rice also.

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
Hi. All my children started eating at 3 months although they say we must wait until 6 moths. My boys were just to hungry!
I started my children on veggies. They are not going to run a marathon and at 3 moths they just need a little more food than breast milk can provide. There are more nutrients in veggies. Start with yellow first. The first day or two only give 3 spoons. Gradually increase this. Your baby will tell you when they have had enough. some days they may eat as much as 6 teaspoons and other days as little as one. Don't force your child to eat!

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
Every child is different. If you feel that your baby can sit up and handle solids, then feel free to feed. Always trust your "mommy" insight. I breastfeed for a year, but supplement with solids. My son is 10 months old now, but it was obvious that he needed more at around 4 months. I would advise not to give too much rice cereal (makes them constipated). Everyone says start with cereal, then veggies, then fruit. I say that the order makes no difference, as long as you don't start adding things like salt and sugar too early. My son wants a little more flavor at this point, so I give cream of wheat with a little unsalted butter. All this means is that your child will give you the best cue!

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
At my son's 2 month ped visit, he said at his 4 month checkup, we could start talking about introducing food. He's 13 weeks today and started sleeping through the night last week. I would think if your daughter is doing fine with formula or breastfeeding, then why add food if she doesn't need it yet.
My son on the other hand...I tend to wonder some days if he has a tapeworm living in his belly b/c he normally consumes 6 oz. a feeding...recently started wanting 7 ozs. and the other day he consumed 10 ozs. within an hour. I didn't think he would ever be satisfied. Must be a growth spurt! What 3 month old eats 10 OUNCES in an hour!!!
Good luck!

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
Each child is different and you need to figure out what is best for yours. My son who is now 3 didn't start cereals/solids until almost 7 months. My daughter on the other hand well not even close. Around 3.5 months she started consuming a large amount of formula. When I say a lot I mean she would take in about 10 to 14 ounces between the hours of 4 and 8. You couldn't satisfy her appetite. She would drink 6 to 8 ounces at 4 and her last bottle at 7 her stomach was actually rumbling and crawling and she would suck down another 6 to 8. I started with just putting a very small amount of cereal on a spoon mixed with formula so it was very liquidy. I was not doing this for her to sleep through the nighta s she had been doing that for weeks (I'm a lucky woman) she really needed the extra boost.
I know my doctor says 4 to 6 months and closer to 6 the better. But at her 4 month check up we discussed her formula comsuption and she said that I could go ahead and start (no I didn't tell her I already did).
So yeah back in the day our parents gave it to us whenever they wanted, was it wrong, not sure I don't see anything wrong with me and those in my generation around me that got cereal within weeks of coming home. They claim they have more information today which I believe is damaging as much as it is helpful.
Watch your childs signs have faither in your self and you will make the right decision for both of you.

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
With my 7 month old (third child) I started small amunts of rice cereal around two months old then moved on to fruits and veggies according to a list from my pedicatrition. He now eats fruits, veggies, meats, cereals and yogurt with no problem, and is healthy. In fact looks forward to his three meals a day, we are currently trying new foods like chicken and rice mixed, getting ready to try mac and cheese (all 2nd stage foods from Gerber). So I guess what I'm saying is follow your babys cues and motherly instinct and discuss with your ped what you want to do.

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
I do not believe all babies should strictly follow the "book" to only start weaning food from 6mths on. My son incisors were spotted when he was 4mths and 3 days in a matter of 6days, the teeth cut from the gum. Are you saying you also cannot accept that babies should only have their first tooth at 6 months which is the norm, or that babies definitely need weeks if not months of teething symptoms before you see the teeth?
I totally agree with LaRue that every child is different, however, I make sure I have the clearance from the PD before I introduced weaning food to my little 21 weeks old. My PD gave me a food chart as reference, from those that has the least allergy reported to those that are of higher allergy reports. He also recommends a trial of 5 days of each single cereal, fruit, vegetable or meat before proceeding to the next.
I hope you are able to get such a list from you child's PD.
Happy feeding, it's alot of fun for both you and the child!

EVERY BABY IS DIFFERENT!!! If you baby can sit with assist, has good head control, and looks like she wants to eat- then give it a try. My baby started eating baby food at 3 1/2 months and has done great. IT was wonderful because it cured her constipation! Before baby food she went once ever 3 days and now goes daily. She very much enjoys eating. At first she did not like the rice cereal so i tried applesauce and she loved it. The first few weeks she ate maybe 1/2 a container daily and not at 5 months she is up to 2 containers of 1st food a day!

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
I used this as a cue to introduce cereal to my son. Both boys were big babies, and weren't happy a little while after they had their bottle. They were much more satisfied with cereal. I believe it was introduced a 3 months. I also made alot of food from food we were eating. Very easy to cook carrots, puree them, and freeze them in ice cube trays! So much cheaper too! BTW, my boys are 11, 7, and now suprize, I am 8 weeks pregnant!

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
I have a five year old and when she was a baby they recomended starting to introduce solids at 3 months! Since then its all different. I now have a ten month and i cant believe how much has changed. Feed on demand, sleep on back and give solids from six months old. All this was different five years ago! My son started eatin solids at six months but didnt really embrase it untill seven months. All babies are different. Just go with what you feel is best.

Re: Baby food when baby is 3 months old
With my 19 yr old and 15 yr old, they were sitting in their car seats eating rice cereal at 3 months due to the fact that they were eating 8 oz and 1 hour later eating another 8 oz. With my 12 yr old and 10 yr old, they were about 4-5 months old. With my 7 month old she was 5 months. So, as you can see, every baby is different. If your daughter isn't able to hold her head up but wants to eat constantly, try mixing 1 tbsp rice cereal with her bottle, they now make nipples for that, and see if that helps.
