    Re: Twins

Hi Gloria, Congratulations and welcome to the club :) How is your pregnancy? Are these your first chilldren? Well, we wanted to have a third one and it came with a gift :) So, we are expecting twins which is something new in our family for a very long time. I am doing fine but I start to feel very heavy. My due date is Sep 5th but the doctor told me that they will come before time. I just hope tomake it as far as possible. Take care and I hope everything goes well with you.

I am so glad I found this message board. *At 9wks I was spotting, so went to the Dr. for an u/s. The spotting was caused by the placenta being over my cervix. *Spontaneous *For the first five months I had bed rest b/c of terrible morning sickness (all day and night). I couldn't do anything except lie in bed. My grandmother would come over during the day and try to get me to keep something down. So far the Dr. has not ordered bed rest. *I haven't delivered yet, but the Dr. will not wait past 37 wks b/c the babies are sharing a placenta. *This delivery will be c/s. My first. *I will definitely breastfeed. My other children were breastfed for 2 years each and I am determined to do the same this time.

Re: FAQ'S to moms of mutiples

When did you discover it was twins? Suspected at four weeks, confirmed at five.

Fertilty assistance or Spontanious? IVF (The first time, I was lucky!)

Any bedrest? why and how long? Some, but not the same as most.  I started out at about 12 weeks on "limited activity" meaning no work, feet up as much as possible, no lifting, do as little as possible-not strict bed rest, but I was threatened by the docs that it would be if I wasn't careful.  I had a cerclage inserted at about 14 weeks to help keep my cervix closed due to lots of surgeries and work on that area previously.  At about 30 weeks I was gradually able to do more (less stringent on the restrictions) and by delivery I was at a "normal" activity level (as normal as you can be when you're carrying two babies around).

How many weeks were you at delivery? 36 exactly-went into labor at my doctor's appointment that day!  :o)

Vag or C/S ? Vaginal-I was scared TO DEATH!  However, it wasn't bad at all.  Thank goodness for that epidural!!!  Labor I could do again--it was the being pregnant part that was so unbearable.

BF or bottle fed? Any complications? Bottle-I just couldn't bring myself to try and breastfeed two babies.  I know it's possible (and kudos to those who have), but it wasn't something I was comfortable with with one baby, let alone two.  Just a personal choice for me.

Any advise for an expecting mom of multiples? Listen to advice, but take it all with a grain of salt, especially if it's from mom's who don't have multiples.  Having babies close together isn't the same!  I have found the ladies who have actually gone through the experience are the best resources because the "get it!"  Get/keep them on the same schedule!  As for the rest, I'm still learning.  My twins are only five weeks and I'm a first time mom.

I loved reading this board when I was pregnant, hope this helps some of you out there too! When did you discover it was twins? At about 5 weeks Fertilty assistance or Spontanious? Assistance with Clomid any bedrest? why and how long? No, thankfully! I worked right up to the day before my scheduled C-section!! how many weeks were you at delivery? 38 weeks, 1 day Vag or C/S ? C/S BF or bottle fed? any complications? BF, primarily bottle-fed breast milk since I've returned to work. Any advise for an expecting mom of multiples? Hang in there! When I saw my beautiful little babies it made every second of a tough pregnancy more than worth it. I also know there are many Moms out there who want to breastfeed twins but think its not possible; it is possible and it is SO good for the babies, especially if they are born early. I've had a lot of help from the pump so my husband could help with feedings. I also discovered the boppy was my best friend for double feedings when using a bottle- one twin on the boppy around my waist and the other right next to me; it saves so much time and a lot of fussing if one twin decides they want to eat in the middle of feeding the other. Being a twin Mom definitely is a challenge sometimes, but the end of the day, we belong to a group of the luckiest people on earth who have been blessed with the miracle of two babies :)

     Hi Cindy,

Congratulations on your daughter's pregnancy.  There is such a thing as vanishing twin syndrome where if a woman finds out early on that she is expecting two or more usually before they can see a heartbeat in the babies.  Usually you are out of the woods once the doctors can see the hearts beating on both babies.  However, I'm not sure whether or not the slow heartbeat is an indication that the baby is not strong or what.  Unfortunately, it really is just a waiting game at this point.  Hopefully you'll have a couple of healthy little grand babies in about 9-months.  Please let us know how things turn out.  If your daughter is interested in posting any thoughts or questions, please tell her to feel free.  We have a lot of nice women here on this board with lots of different experiences with twin pregnancy which is often times an abundance of knowledge.

    Cheryl
