    Kindergarten woes and joys!

Ok, so let's not let this board go away. Let's share what is happening in the lives of our little ones - who are now in school! AAAgghhh!

Carter is doing K homeschool.  So far we are loving it. We have a 'real' books from a 'real' school, we have just chosen to do it at home. His favorite subjects are math and science.  He is learning to read and write and I'm surprised (though I shouldn't be) at how fast he is learning.  He is easily distracted - though that is a skill to develop over time - and he does NOT like any coloring or arts/crafts stuff.  I started his school year a bit early so we can take off time when the baby is born. We have completed 7 weeks of school and will take off from baby's birth through the holidays and start back up on Jan 4th.

Ok everyone - share what is going on with your Kindergartener!

Josh started K on Sept. 1.  I drop him off at 12:30 and he gets off the bus at 3:30.  He is working on writing letters and memorizing site words.  He has PE class, computer lab, and library time.  He hasn't mentioned being friends with anyone.  I hope he is doing OK with that.  I was picked to be the homeroom mom.  I have to organize the Halloween party!  Yikes, i suck at that kind of stuff!  It will get me time in the classroom though, which is good.

Wow, that's awesome that you are afforded the opportunity to homeschool! I would if I were able (or qualified lol) but luckily Laci loves school! She's doing very well and has made so many new friends! She excited about school and I hope it lasts for many years to come. Did Carter go to any kind of daycare? If not, that just shows what a great mom you were and showed/taught him all he needed to know to start kindergarten, as it sounds like he's right on schedule, especially excelling at math and science!! For myself, I so hated having to send Laci off to daycare since she was 5-1/2 months old (and believe me, felt the guilt), but overall, she is doing well socially because she's used to being around other kids and adults. I think all kids are "easily distracted" at this age, lol! Laci is a total motor mouth, and I just can't imagine where she got that from! tee hee All in all I am totally enjoying this age and wish I could just freeze her in time - she's a big ole sponge just soaking up the world and I could not be more proud of her. She's a sassy pants at times and continues to try my patience on a daily basis, but as my mother used to say, this too shall pass. 'Course I'm a single mom and every day is a new challenge, one which I would not trade for anything, tho. Good luck to you with the new baby and all. Are you considering joining Facebook???? C'mon, give it a try! :)

Carter did not go to any daycare. Really the only babysitter he has had is Grandma. I am so thankful for that! I am a totally stay at home mom. I really could use some income at this time - but who couldn't?!?

Anyway, I am not going to go on Facebook. I just can't spend anymore time doing stuff. That is my way of controlling my time - not joining! :)

5 Weeks left 'till baby comes. I am so ready. I just need to pack my bag and we are set!

Sounds like he is doing well. Does he have friends from the neighborhood that he knows in class?

I would not be good as the homeroom mom. I can't think of ways to do the parties. I can come up with themes, but then to actually pull it off is a totally different matter. Good luck!

    Re: Kindergarten woes and joys!

Zane started in the end of August. We had a difficult time with separation anxiety at first. I didn't expect it b/c they had a Kindergarten in July program that he loved.

He's doing phenomenal now. He is still well above level and I do what I can to keep that up, Just starting last week he gets pulled from class 3 days a week to join a 1st grade class for reading. He hates that they are still going over colors and shapes, but now that they moved on a little to things like patterns and adding he loves it a lot more. He has gym and library once a week. I really don't like 1/2 day Kindergarten, I think they could have a lot more to do and learn if it was full day. Unfortunately it's only available at 1 school in our district and it's out of the neighborhood boundary's.

He was playing soccer this season for the 1st time and loves that now too, his last game is on Saturday and he's bummed about that but super excited that he'll be getting his first trophy. He's also going to start basketball soon and Mommy gets to coach, so I'm excited for that. I've missed coaching terribly.

Oh and he is by far the class leader just like in pre-k. So he's keeping his excellent social skills which I was worried about b/c I was far from a social butterfly, I was the one matching the wall. I just don't like that all the girlies love him ha ha!
