I haven't been on in forever!!!

Hello! How is everyone doing? We are getting ready for Zach's 5th birthday - I can't believe it! I was wondering if some of you could weigh in on his party. Last year in Preschool Zach had 8 kids in his class and this year he has 19! We invited everyone from his class last year. Would it be rude to only invite the 8 from last year? A lot of places have a limit of 25 kids and we have about 10 non school kids to invite too. I'm sure they all wouldn't be able to go but I'm still wondering what to do... Any thoughts?

Etiquette says if you send the invite to school that you should invite the whole class but if you mail the invites to the house (or discreetly hand them to the parents of the invited children) then it doesn't matter!

You can always bring cupcakes to his class at school and have a small "party" there so no one feels left out and Zach got to have a party with the whole class (that you won't have to clean up) and then do his birthday party with everyone you want to invite!

I agree with the above!  I always do a "party" for the class......do cupcakes and little goodie bags...so everyone is included on the bday celebration...then I do an actual bday party for his friends (and some of my friends).  I couldn't afford to include everybody on a big bday bash...we have been in the area too long and know too many people!

Our first 5 year old!!!!!  What a milestone for the board.  I can't believe we've stuck together for 5 years.....almost 6 since we got pregnant.

I don't think there is anything wrong with just inviting the kids he's known from previous years as long as you do it discretely.  I mean, seriously, you can only invite so many.  Cameron is in Junior Kindergarden this year and the policy at his school is that the parent can provide special treats on the child's birthday for everyone in the class.  If there are invitations to a party, they are to be handed out discretely at the end of a school day.  If they are handed out in the morning before class, children not invited may be upset.  And the invite is most appropriately handed to the parent.

Thanks guys for the advice! I had planned on brinnging in cupcakes for the whole class on his birthday. I decided to only invite the kids from last year. All the kids in Zach's class have a folder in their backpack that the teachers put in any forms or papers that the parents need to look at so I will ask them to put them right in the folder at the end of the day. So I hope this way the other kids won't get upset..
