Does anyone have any info on preeclamsia?

I have been diagnosed with chronic hypertension and recently found out that I have proteinuria as well.  These two conditions result in the diagnosis of preeclamsia.  I have my dr appt on Thursday, and would like to know what to expect.....Will I be put on bedrest?  Will the baby be delivered early?  Is there anyone who has gone through this before?

I had preeclamsia with my first and my third pregancies-I didn't have it with my second pregancy. I was put on bedrest for both pregancies that I had it. My first baby was three weeks early because my blood pressure was real high and my face was so swollen that nobody had to tell me I could feel it. With my third pregancy I only had it the last two weeks of my pregancy, but still had to go on bedrest because my blood pressure being high, and this baby was a week and two days early. Both babies were okay when they were born-their lungs were developed. My daughter(first pregancy) was 7lbs and 5.6oz when she was born and my son(third pregancy)was 5lbs and 10 oz when he was born. With my third pregancy I only had a mild case of preeclamsia-I only had the high blood pressure and had no swolling of the face or hands. My blood pressure was going way too high that it was affecting the baby and we had to have the baby the day before we planned to have him.

my sister had her baby on the 12th of november, five weeks early and weighed 3lbs 2oz, my sister had really bad preeclampsia but she handled it really well, just took things in stride ya know? her boyfriend and i were great support (I've had two mc's and a full placenta previa) not to mention our mom and his! but she was put on bedrest for awhile and then she swelled up due to water gain i believe, and then she was havin the baby! Infinity Dawn got to go home a week or so ago and they are doing very well. my sister is even looking like her old self and she swears by cocoa butter lotion for stretch marks! Just remember, above all you will make it through this and in the end you get a beautiful baby. be strong and keep your head up. GL

I had it my first pregnancy. Totally unexpected at 33wks I had my first 2 week appt and my bp went sky high. They will do a non-stress test probably every week or everyother week and maybe 24hr urine tests (who doesn't like to save there urine in a jug for 24hr :) and poss bedrest. I wish you all the luck in the world. I know it can be scary but it's fairly common enough that the doc's know how to treat it well. My son was born a day away from 38weeks and weighed only 3lb 12.8oz but needed no IV or oxygen. So take comfort that the stress of high bp's make the babies lungs develope faster (that's what I was told from my doc).

how many weeks are you? usually the condition is diagnosed from 20wks and on- I have chronic hypertension but managed to keep myself from developing preeclampsia- it can get really bad depending on what stage of pregnancy you're in they could put you on bed rest but I highly doubt it as usually blood pressure tends to elevate with extended periods without moving esp while lying down- worst case scenario- you'll start retaining a ton of water, depending on gestation- the baby may wind up being a bit small- hypertension alone can cause that though--they'll likely hook you up to a bunch of iv's and meds at delivery- one of which will likely be magnesium (to prevent siezing)  you will likely deliver early- but it's not a guarantee... wishing you and your baby the best of luck! you may want to research it a bit on the internet keep us updated :)

I had preeclampsia with my 3rd pregancy. My son was born in November at 28 weeks. What they will do with your diagnosis depends on how severe your preeclampsia is. Mine was considered very severe because my blood pressure was very high, in the end even when sleeping, and the amount of protein in my urine was about three times the threshhold for severe. I spent a week in the hospital, they wouldn't let me eat- afraid they might have to do a c-section at any time, I couldn't get out of bed at all. They did lab work every couple hours- and that is how they knew it was time to deliver- they saw indications of organ failure. My situation was unique though- I don't want to scare you. I think I just started typing and couldn't stop.... Good luck
