    Anyone heard of this??

I met my doctor for the first time last week. He did a pap, and the measuring. My baby is all the way to the far right side of my uterus. To put this as easy as possible, the doctor said the left side of my uterus is not recognizing it is pregnant, therefore trying to menstrate. I guess, eveuntally there are enough hormones produced to stop this from happening. It is causing my uterus to contract and get hard, which in turn causes me to cramp. I have not talked to anyone who has even heard of this before! The doctor now says that my pregnancy is high risk. I am 11 weeks right now. Once I make it through the 1st trimester, then I will be at risk for premature labor. I now have to go to the Doc way more then normal. I don't understand why they are not putting me on the hormones right now? This is frustrating because I cannot find anyone with a problem even similar to mine :(

I have not heard of this but will be keeping my fingers crossed for you and your little one. I am only 8 week pg but like you I have a high risk one. ( I have a bicornuate uterus, basically 2 small uterus instead of one) My baby is in the top of the right horn. The good thing about being high risk is that you get to see your Dr very frequently ( every 2 wks for me) so you can question them further on your next visit. I also will not be out of the clear after the 1st trimester and am at risk for PTL, so lets keep in touch and suport each other over the comming months. Good luck and best wishes. Lisa

I don't understand it as he explained it to you.   I've never heard of this.  I didn't realize that part of the uterus can recognize pregnancy and the other part doesn't.  Did he do an ultrasound or anything?  Sometimes blood can pool on one side of the uterus during the first trimester and needs to be expelled or reabsorbed.  <hands in the air>

Are you on hormone therapy at all?  If your hormones aren't high enough, he should have you on therapy, you'd think?

I have never heard of it, but I would get a second opinion.

I second the second opinion!  I would also have him give you the medical term for whatever it is he says you have, and do some research on the condition.  The more information you have, the better off you'll be to make decisions for yourself and your baby.

I agree with everyone. I have a sono appt next wednesday and see the doctor friday. I think I am going to have him explain it to me again. Maybe with my husband with me :) But like you all have said, I want the medical term for it. You dont think he is just telling me that, so I have to come in every two weeks, so he makes more money...... type of situation do you?? I sure hope not, that is just wrong. So far everything is fine, and I am going stay positive that it will remain that way, I dont have any reason to beleive other wise. Thanks for your advise, it means a lot to me, I am new at all this :) ~Missy~ ~Lisa, I will keep my fingers crossed for you! Best of luck :)

I don't necessarily think that he's trying to get more money from you. BUT, I do a lot of volunteering for the March of Dimes and some of the work I do is education and advocacy. All three of my babies were micropreemies. I have never heard of this condition, and I have heard MANY reasons why women go into preterm labor. This is not one that I've heard before. Besides, it's your responsibility to yourself and your baby to be educated on your body and your pregnancy. Second opinions are easy to get and one should ALWAYS seek a second opinion when given news like this.
