VBAC

Until recently, women who delivered via c-section had to deliver all subsequent children the same way. But now, an increasing number of women are having VBAC, or a vaginal birth after cesarean. Check out this message board to meet other women who have had a VBAC and those who are considering it.

    Goind for my second VBAC

I am going for my second VBAC. My first child(5/17/06) was breech, so c/s. Second was a VBAC(6/11/07) at 11 days overdue.  I'm due in december and am attempting a second VBAC. I  just found out from a doc that's part of a group that the office belief is that my birth will be treated just like a "normal" birth! That made me so happy. I asked him what the requirements were for a VBAC'ing mom and he said, anything within reason, between the mother and the doctor. I'm meeting with one of the midwives there next week when I have my "big" ultrasound and I'll talk to her more in depth and will hopefully get her as the attending during my labor/birth. :)

Very encouraging testimony. So VBAC is possible after just one year? I bet not all doctors will allow that. Congrats!

My Doc allowed it 10yrs ago with my first VBAC (C/S Nov. 97 and VBAC Jan 99) and now after my VBAC turned C/S last Nov he is allowing me to attempt a VBA2C this Dec!!

VBAC is possible after just a year.  Unfortunately, not many doctors will allow one at all and I actually had to switch providers with my VBAC'ing pregnancy because my OB told me that I had to have an IUPC.  When I said "I don't want it." he said, "If you refuse it, you won't even be offered a VBAC."  I think my jaw hit the floor!!

It's certainly possible, but you're right that many care providers won't 'allow' it. There is some evidence that suggests that the risk of uterine rupture increases if there is not 18-24 months between births, but it's still not an unacceptable increase or risk. Most doctors that don't 'allow' it are practicing fear-based medicine out of litigation fear instead of evidence-based care. Bottom line is that it's not about what the doctor 'allows' because the mom is the one who ultimately makes the decisions & signs the consent forms.
