Re: incompetent cervix on bed rest plz help

I'm also on bedrest in a very similar situation, but Dr's have not given me a reason/diagnosis per se. Last November I had a cone biopsy done on my cervix and last Dr. said I might not carry to term. However, my first trimester was great! No morning sickness. I'm a teacher and was working Mon - Fri from 7 am til 3 pm, and when after school program started was working 3-6 pm as well (M, T, R, & F). Anyway, after having no problems except a cervical polyp that caused spotting fairly regularly, just after my Full (?) ultrasound and the beginning of my second tri-mester my cervical length went from 3 cm to 1.7cm. The Dr's group I go to put me on bedrest for a week, I didn't have a change and am on continued bedrest for two more weeks. Are there any suggestions? I haven't had much info given to me from the Dr's. and no one has gone with me to the appointments. My partner/husband is a contract worker, so if he doesn't work, he doesn't get paid. We just moved into the area and had two months over the summer with no income. I'm a bit frustrated and scared. No local relations, closest friend lives a 1/2 hr away. This is my first pregnancy (prob. my only/last), I'm over 35. Thanks.

I am sorry your going thru this it can be very scary. How many weeks are you? One of the biggest things is stay in bed keep your feet elevated and drink lots and lots of water and no lifting or bending. Its very difficult and stressful but so worth it when you make it to the third trimester. I was on bed rest since 20 wks and i am now 28. I've never had any surgery done to my cervix yet and still my cevix length went from 1.8cm at 20 wks to .4mm at 22 wks. so i was sent to the hospital for a emergency cerclage. it was painless but scary. If you ever get to that point dont wait until your that far along becuz the risk are higher than gettin it at around 12-16 weeks. hopefully you cl stays stable and won't have to even think that far. well good luck and u can always post if u need someone to talk to

Hey Dawn, first off sorry you are having to deal with this. Well I know after 24w they usually dont do a cerlage. I went from +4cm at 19w to 1.3cm at 22w6d. My cervix was funneling not actually effacing so I was not a canidate for a cerclage and that happened due to a cervical rupture after the birth of my daughter. We had been keeping an eye on it and like you it went from everything is fine normal its hard and long to crap, your cervix is soft and almost gone! Like siad keep hydrated. I also avoided caffien. Anything that is going to cause your uterus to contract or be aggervated I wouldnt do. So no resting things on your belly, no massaging your belly. That kinda stuff. Just cuz your uterus naturally contracts (normal) when these things happen. When do you go back? I would do a list of questions you have and ask them ALL and make sure they answer them so you understand. Drs tend to forget that we dont speak there language. Research your hospital see if they are qualified to handle a micro premie just to be on the safe side. If they dont then ask your dr who does and what is the plan if you do go into labor and have to deliver at the hospital. Find a good ped dr ASAP. Get educated. Dont let everything freek you out but know what to expect as much as you can and to be prepared incase you have to. I think its better to be prepared and not need it then to need it and have no clue. You will be in my prayers.

Hi Melissa, I was wondering how you are doing? How long after you were taken off of bedrest did you deliver? I am wondering, because I am in your situation. I was put on bedrest at 27 weeks, and I will be 34 weeks in 4 days. My cervix is only .4mm though (basically all gone). I'm wondering what will happen to me.

I think Melissa went 5 days before her EDD. I just had my son at 38w2d. I started  to dilate before my contractions got consistant. I went to he hospital and was a 5cm with irregular contractions so they gave me pit and in less than 6hours he was born.
