Who is out there over 35?

Hey! I am 37 years old and about to have my 3rd boy in May. I am just wondering how many are out there who are also over 35? It looks like all of the posts from this section expired a year ago. Anyone interested in starting this section up again?

Hi Leslie! I just joined today and was very happy to find your message. I just turned 37 on November 19th and I also just found out that I am pregnant again. I am scared to death. I was not planning, nor expecting this little surprise. I am still in shock. But anyway, I would love to participate in this section.

This is my first baby and I am 36, will be 37 when I deliver. I'd love to start a 35 and over section to talk about testing and such since that sharply increases at 35. Christy

Hey Everyone! I am so glad to get all of your replies!! I knew I wasn't THE ONLY ONE who wasn't in her late 20's!! For my group of friends it is very normal to have your babies after 30. There are some great things about being our ages and having babies! For one, we get special treatment. I found out that I was having my 3rd boy when I was only 13 weeks. I went in for a pre-screening and a blood test, and they could already tell. All the younger girls have to wait for that news until they are 17 to 20 weeks!! We can start our own little group!

Congratulations Sandra!! This was a surprise to me too! I was even on the Nuva Ring so when I skipped a period I really thought it was just from exercise. I am delighted with this surprise now, but I did cry for several days and curse my husband's name at first!

Christy and Diane, how exciting that you are both having your first babies!!! We will make this a great group for support and advice. Those of us who have been through it before can help you. My doctor sent me to the paranatal office to get detailed ultra sounds and a blood test to check on chromosomal problems. They sort of pre-screen us to see if we need an amnio. It turns out they do not think I need an amnio. Ask your doctor if he/she can send you to the paranatal office for a pre-screening.

Bonnie, I had my first baby at 28 and my 2nd one at 33. Even at 33 I could tell it took more out of me. My mom says that has nothing to do with age, but that our bodies have to work harder with each additional child. I think number 3 will be it for me!! :)

Re: Who is out there over 35?

Hey Ladies!! I'm 35. Had my first at 34. Didn't think I could have children. My first marriage had a miscarriage and then nothing for more than 4 years. Second marriage got pregnant right away at 34 and now 35 pregnant with my second. Yep my boys will be one year apart. Stopping at two but so happy to have them. I see so many women now waiting until they are older to have children. I always said if I didn't have one by 35 wasn't going to try anymore. I just made it with Joshua and now baby number 2 will just squeeze in a few months before my 36th birthday! Good luck to everyone!

I am 39 due June 13th with my first child. I did the college and career route with a horrible first marriage. I finally met an incredible man and married him a year ago - so I'm getting a later start than I intended. I always wanted children though, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity. I hope it goes smooth. I may adopt a second or stop with one. Not sure yet. So far it's going great, I've just been really tired. I would love to stay in touch with all of you.

Thanks for the advice Leslie, will do. I thought amnios were standard over 35 but it looks like they only do it if they have other "markers" they pick up on in the ultrasound. What about the other test that I think is equivalent to amnio called CVS? One other question any of you ladies get a flu shot either before or during your pregancy? I don't usually get one but they say you should and it's supposedly safe for pregnancy. Christy

You are very positive and that's refreshing Leslie. So they could tell the gender of your baby from a blood test/prescreening? Was it through u/s? Christy
