Re: natural birth support
You are absolutely right! What she describes is a VAGINAL birth, not a NATURAL one. Where do they draw the line...if an epi is natural, what about induction? pitocin? arom? narcotics? You should ask them what their definition of natural childbirth is...I bet they would say something to the effect of a vaginal birth, which is entirely different. Look at the description of this board
"Natural Childbirth
Share tips, support, encouragement, and the natural childbirth experience with other mothers who said no to the drugs and those who are considering it. "
It CLEARLY implies that natural childbirth means unmedicated. It's not that we are on our 'high horse' it's just that we realize the benefits of an unmedicated birth for baby and for mom and that's why we make it our choice. Don't let them get to you...I think we run that opposition (conflicts in definition) in many places. Wanna give me your board link? I'll get your back over there :)

Re: natural birth support
I almost brought this website up LOL there are no medicated birth stories on here!!! Thank you for your support, Sonia, I knew I would get at least one cyber hug on here LOL. A few of the moms in the argument that were there for laughs agreed to disagree... so its pretty much over. The way they were acting, I was expecting 5 angry messages in my inbox this morning. I think that as soon as you say you had a natural birth they are the ones who automatically assume you have a superiority complex. I didn't even bring up my feelings against it, I just stated plain and simple my birth was natural because I did what my ody intended me to do in childbirth and I wasn't sitting back and relaxing through my contractions, and I stated that was my choice... Ahhh I feel like no matter how gently I said iit wasn't the same I was going to be berated by those defensive women.

Re: natural birth support
Wow so I went back this morning and they went on for 10 pages basically bashing natural birthing, the funny thing is they kept calling it natural birthing, contradicting their original post of natural and vaginal are the same. I flat out left he group. Its so sad to realize that I am in a huge minority of women who choose natural. They are psycho!!

Re: natural birth support
If it wouldn't occur in nature - it's not natural. PERIOD.
Even many unmedicated labors/births aren't completely natural! But that's an entirely different topic.
Good for you for sticking up for yourself and your beliefs - I don't understand how we're on 'high horses' for defending our beliefs, but they're not for defending theirs! Makes no sense.

Re: natural birth support
I seen this on the front page and just had to read and post.. I dont think I've ever posted on this board but I just wanted to say that I don't think you are on a "high" horse by any means.. I think there is a BIG difference.. my sister had an epi and she claims it wore off right before she started pushing so at least got that part to be "natural" .. IMO she didnt get that either..
I dont know how you feel personally but in my opinion I have had two natural deliverys.. No epi, no meds, no induction.. I was in a hospital but other than that, I did everything on my own.. And I think I have gone all natural..
I dont think anyone should bash either way of child birthing but I think everyone should have a place to go a "brag" about their own chosen methods of birthing..

Re: natural birth support
I reiterated over and over that no one should bedefensive of their births and the most important thing in the end was that mom and baby are healthy, but the way you birth varies, clearly. Epidurals don't occur naturally in our bodies, bottom line is it is differentn and it doesn't mean you didn't have a baby! It means your birthed differently and there is a recognisable difference between medicated and non medicated birthing-- its called going all natural! I'm still bent out of shape by their incredible rudeness. One woman said it only counts if you're out in a field giving birth on your feet by the moonlight. Well how ridiculous, unassisted birth is in a whole different category! The same woman said getting hit over the head with a shovel to the point of unconsciousness was a natural way to deal with the pain, and then smoking weed was a natural herb so that's another way to go natural.... They were so ignorant!!

Re: natural birth support
As usual, natural birthers are misunderstood. Like a pp said, alot of women say they gave birth naturally when it was just vaginally. I think some say natural because they are afraid to say the V word. I consider natural as mainly no pain meds and no inducing with pit, cervadil, and cytotec. But I've been considering this too: amniotomies, episiotimies, IV's are not "natural." I think that's where u get into the difference between natural birth and pure birth. Anyway, just my 2 cents. However, a medicated vaginal birth is not a natural birth. I agree.

Re: natural birth support
I had something similar happen to me the last time I was pregnant. I was basicly shunned after inquiring about a woman who had chosen to have an elective c-section with no need to do so other then her convenience. She hadn't had a previous c-sec. she just wanted to know what day she would deliver!! The other ladies were way harsh and tore me apart. It was a lonely pregnancy for me and I was looking forward to spending my pregnancy with this group of gals, but i never posted there again. Many of the "Non natural birthers" tend to give us natural birthers such a hard time for our opinion. I feel your hurt and anger. I went through it at one of the most difficult times in my adult life. ((((((((((HUGS...HUGS....HUGS))))))))))))

Re: natural birth support
Sending you a cyper hug!
I had to watch everything I said with my last pregancy, but got really lucky with my bb. There were 11 vbac hopefuls, 1 hb & 23 mama's trying it natural (not just vaginal). I thought those odds were crazy for a bb. It seems like everyone wants drugs & c/s these days.
I dread it to some degree if I ever have another. I just wont find a board like that one or this one again.

My last bb I lucked out on an had Laura on it! It was so nice to have someone else on the bb that held natural childbirth up as highly as I did. This bb I'm on now has almost no natural birthers... there was one gal who was pretty supportive of my opinion, but she lost her baby :'( And there are MORE than a few outspoken intervention happy birthers - not that I care, I just feel outnumbered.

Re: natural birth support
Yep.... there is Vaginal birth and there is natural birth. With my son I birthed vaginally (with potocin and an epidural)... and there was NOTHING natural about it. I agree with you.
