Re: **November sweet potatoes birth stories and awards**

So I thought since i had a few extra min i would go ahead and post my birth story. So thinking that i was going home at 10 am after being on hospital bedrest for 10 days. At 2 am i started having contractions 2-3 min apart thinking im not saying anything bc im sure these will go away and i was tired of being in the hospital. lol..I was ready to see my kids at home to whom i havnt seen in 10 days. After about an hour of that i decided to call the nurse in. She put me on the monitors , the dr came in and checked me i was already 100 percent effaced and dilated to a 4. So they decide to move me to the labor and delivery floor. Where i got the nicest but clumsiest nurse ever. bless her heart. Things progressed pretty fast, By 7 am i was 6 centimeters and realizing that i hadnt remember it hurting this much so i opted for the epi. but due to my being on heprin a blood thinner they had to wait for my labs to come back before i coucould get one. THe lab tech forgot to get my labs for the plalet test.. So they had to re draw my blood. THen there was a lab errow so they had to redo the labs i mean seriously are theyou kidding me. So finially at 8 what a long hour. I got the clear to have the epi. and since im at uab its a training hospital they sent a trainy to do my epi. who did it wrong and kept asking me does that hurt .. hello im having contractions every min. everything hurts..lol.. His boss finially came in and redid it. Thank god.. So of coarse i went to sleep. i woke up at 9 ish where the nurse says to me let me know if you feel continuos pressue and ill check you i said okay and with in min i did start feeling that way however im thinking i just want to sleelp for 20 more min. it didnt work tho. i let her know she checked me and i was completly ready but now i have to get moved to the operating room due to the fact that im delivering twins this is where the fun began. so the nurse is pushing me down the hall on the bed and runs the bed into the maintance bucket where the monitor that holds my epi gets dropped into a bucket of bleach water..then when we get to the room the hits the door way with the bed. then when im being moved from one bed to the other she accidently hits me in the head with the monitor cords..The next part was super easy i had 2 pushes and andrew was out , they break my water for andrea and 1 push and she was out..Now i have to get back to the labor and delivery room where the nurse follows the same routine hits the doorway again when we get back to the room i inform her that she will NOT be holding my babies..lol...She says she didnt get her caffine that day.. So now it is time to be moved to the mother and baby floor i get put into the wheelchair where dh says NO let me push her.loll Thank god..I love the nicu and cnn nursery at this hospital however maternity floor sucks. I must say tho that this was the easiet delivery ive ever had most of my others were all 20 plus hours .. I think that god realized i had been in enough pain through out the pregnacy that he would give me a break and give me a easy delivery minus the clutsy nurse.. But let me say that she was really great very supportive talked me thru the contractions just awesome as long as she wasnt running into the wall lol..I will try to post pics asap but i do have pics posted on facebook..

Re: **November sweet potatoes birth stories and awards**

I can’t believe that it is my turn to post a birth story.  The short story:  Our little sweet potato, Nathaniel, decided to come early.  Nathaniel was born yesterday (10/12) morning at 5:24 am.  He weighs 5 lbs 6 oz and is doing great.  We should be out of the hospital on Wednesday.

The longer version:  I have been so busy with school that I don’t think I have had the chance to post any doctor’s appointment updates or anything in a while.  Then again, my memory is a little fuzzy right now so if some of this is a repeat, please forgive me.  Thursday, Oct 1st, I had a little spotting while I was at school.  I went in to the ob to get checked out and they didn’t find the source or the spotting.  They hooked me up to the monitor for a couple of hours to make sure that the little guy was doing ok and to get an idea if I was having contractions.  Come to find out, I was having contractions that I thought all along was the baby moving and pushing at me.   I was having about 7 an hour while I was on the monitors.  The nurse checked me and I was not dilated and still thick, so home I went with orders to try to take it easy.    I continued having contractions ever since then, but they were irregular and went away with rest.   Then, Saturday (10/11), I was at the hospital to do the pre-registration class and I had contractions pretty steady the entire time I was there.  They were not painful, but since they were regular and I was at the hospital, I got checked.  I was 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced.  The nurse came back to check me a couple hours later and there had been no progress so I got to go home and eat.  Thank goodness.  I was starving.  The contractions continued but didn’t become painful until Sunday morning.   So, I go all day Sunday and I am wondering how long this painful contraction stage can last because I don’t know how much I can take.   Around midnight, the contractions became very painful and were between 3-7 minutes apart.  I woke hubby and our five year old and we headed off to the hospital.  So, we arrive at the hospital around 1:45 am.  I get hooked up to the monitor again and the nurse confirms that the contractions are 2-3 minutes apart.  She leaves for a while and checks me when she returns.  I am ONLY at 3.5 cm dilation.  OMG!  I turned to my hubby and told him I can’t go take a test in this condition.  I am not sure how long I can go on in this condition.  If these contractions aren’t doing anything, why do hurt so badly.   The nurse leaves and returns to check me again about an hour later and I am 5 cm dilated.  So the OB on call gets a call and the orders are put in for an epidural.  The OB comes by to see me and his plan is to give me a heavy dose of the epidural and try to hold the delivery off for four hours so I can have two full doses on antibiotic on board since I hadn’t been tested for Group-B strep yet.  At 4:15 am, I get the epidural.  Blessed relief.  At 5:07, my water breaks and I have to call the nurse in.  The baby was not responding well to the less fluid filled environment.  The nurse checks me and I am 100% dilated and at station +2.  On top of that, I can’t feel the contractions but they are pushing the baby out anyway.  So, the doc returns and after two rounds of pushing baby is delivered at 5:24 am.  They put him on my belly right away and I am amazed at how tiny he is.  The nurses took him quickly and started working on him.  He needed a little oxygen and I trip to the NICU for observation.   He was only gone for about an hour.  He is being checked every hour or two to make sure he is holding his temperature.  He is doing great and passing all his tests with flying colors.  We should be released to go home on Wednesday.

Re: **November sweet potatoes birth stories and awards**

Hayden James is here!  Quick version (I am exhasted) - due to my high blood pressure - I had been on bed rest for 2 weeks and in  the hospital for one - they decided to do an amnio and see if his lungs were developed/mature enough to go ahead and deliver....on Monday night, around 11:00 pm we were told they were and that we were going to have a c-section at 7am on Tuesday (10/13). C-section b/c he  was breech.  I was VERY freaked out and NOT happy about having to have a c,but  so be it.

5 am Tuesday morning the nurse came and got us (DH spent thenight and my mom was sweet enough to join us at the crack of  dawn) and wheeled me on down to pre-op - at 7:18 our second son, Hayden James, came into the world. Recovery and all day yesterday, untill about 5 or 6 hours ago were AWFUL, I couldn't  receive one pain med b/c of the high blood pressure and  the other pain med via the epidural didn't work on me (had 2 epidurals w/ first son and neither worked all the  way) so needless to say I was in excrutiating pain a definite 10 - had an AWFUL nurse and the day was just awful, much worse than I ever imagined.....except for my perfectly healthy andadorable  son.  I finally have some releif and am able to sit up, get online, talk and  I do see some light at the end of this painful tunnel.

So that is my birth story in a quick slightly drugged (finally some pain meds that work)  nutshell  - 3 weeks and 6 days early and we have a wonderful little boy!

Good luck to all of you ladies and I can only hope you all have quick, easy, healthy and painless deliveries!

** Warning** I do go into detail.

Natalie Grace is here!  8lbs 2oz and 20.5".  Born on Oct. 29th at 7:57pm.  I had my membranes stripped the day before at my 39 week appt. and I didn't think it took as I didn't notice any contractions or even cramping right away.  I went home and my hubby and I went for a bite to eat at one of our favorite local diners.  While we were there, which was about 2 1/2 hours or so after the appt., I started to feel different.  Some cramping and slight contractions as well as little more moist.  By the time we were done eating, I just couldn't wait to go home and go to the bathroom (the big D was impending) and lay down for awhile.  When I got home, I was surprised to find gobs of pink discharge.  I'm also crampy and feeling pain in my back and groin.  I dismissed it as I had about had enough of thinking "this is it".  More bathroom trips showed the pink stuff was still there and not going away.  By the way, it was a lot more mucousy than the stuff after an exam or sex.  I still figured that it was from the appt. earlier.  My stomach was churning and a couple bouts of diarrhea happened.  By this point, not only am I feeling kind of disappointed..thinking I should've been having my baby by now (how naive I was), but now I felt like complete crap.  I told my hubby I needed to go lay down and if I didn't wake up before he went to bed to just let me sleep.  I'd spent the last couple weeks exhausted, going on fumes.  This was good thinking on my part.  I slept, but I would wake up about every hour needing to go pee or felt pain ..just something almost every hour.  I even got up and posted on here in the early morning.  Thankfully, my son stayed with my mom that night.  At one point, I saw the discharge was fading and thought..WTH!  I'm really going to be pregnant forever.  Laid back down.  Woke up again and again and it was back and starting to become bloody and the pain was becoming more intense.  I'm not feeling it in my upper abdomen though.  Just in my lower back and groin.  Well, I started to change my mind at this point about what might be happening.  My hubby left for work in the meantime.  I woke up at 6:30am again and went to see if he had left yet, not realizing the time at first and BAM.  I took about 10 steps and BAM again.  Let me tell you, I was thinking OMG PAIN!  Not, hmmm yet another contraction.  So, I start looking up bloody show and how long it lasts before labor and timing back labor.  I had already suspected the baby was posterior.  Thanks Jennifer by the way for your early morning post that helped me realize ..THIS IS IT!  Started up the faithful contraction timer from www.contractionmaster.com.  Timing was good and the pain was intense.  I called my mom, attempted a couple calls and texts to my hubby, and started wondering around the house in a panic.  Which took awhile because I had to stop every couple mins and moan.  I really wish I would've learned some breathing techniques as I was clueless and moaning didn't really help.  This is getting long..anywho..my mom and I made arrangements, I took literally half a shower, and put a couple last minute things together.  My sister and mom showed up to get me to the hospital and finally got in touch with the hubby who I told to meet me at the hospital.  We got there about 8:30am, and I was showing some good contractions, the pain was where it should be, it felt real.  I was still somehow doubting myself.  The nurse checked me and I was 4cm.  I almost screamed.  I continued naturally laboring (I bow to women who have done this all the way thru) until 4pm.  In which time I only went to 5cm.  I freaked.  I said, if this is false labor and they have to send me home...they're going to have to send an epidural home with me.  Contractions stayed about 2-3 mins. apart and were steady.  At about 4pm, I told the nurse I really wanted an epidural.  I had waited almost all day for the bag of IV fluid to finish so I could get the epidural.  It was finished at this point, so she got me ready for the epidural.  The guy came and ..wow did it suck.  It worked, but I felt all funny and I hate feeling anything out of a natural state so I started to get panicky.  The doctor came in and broke my water.  The baby was still high and posterior (confirmed now). Eventually I calmed myself down and dozed off for a little while.  When I woke up, I felt a lot better.  I remember I thought, I'm so not going to progress because I felt like nothing was happening.  All of a sudden, I started feeling contractions.  Not pain so much, just the pressure really.  They were right on top of each other.  My mom said there was even a few that hit the 90 mark.  The nurse came in and checked me at about 6pm (so 2 hours after epi and water broke) and she had a funny look on her face, so I immediately though OH NO.  I asked what was wrong, and she said you're 9cm.  I tell you, if I could've felt my legs and moved..I would've jumped up and down yelling with excitement.  This nurse rocked, she really got things going.  She sat me up so the baby could move down as she was sill high.  Came back shortly afterward to check me (maybe 30 mins.) and she had a bag of Pitocin and I wasn't so happy about seeing that bag.  I told her the pressure was getting pretty intense so she checked me before starting Pitocin.  I was 9 and a lip. WOOOHOOO.  Then she had me do a couple practice pushes and she said, forget the Pitocin and called out to the aide for the doctor.   Doctor made it there in about 10 mins.  I pushed about 8 times and out she came!  She was so little and petite, I thought for sure she was only 6lbs or so.  No..8lbs 2 oz.  I couldn't believe it, she was so tiny compared to my son, but weighed more.  It was a trip.  She was a little longer though.  Someone is hungry now.  This is long enough.  Basically, I'm happy with our beautiful baby girl and our son is being so good 4years old.

Re: **November sweet potatoes birth stories and awards**

Kylia Arianna was born on 11/2/2009 at 1:52am weighing 7lbs 1 oz and is 19.75 inches long. I went into the hospital on Sunday at 3pm as instructed by my doctor because I was only 1.5 cm dialated the previous Wednesday and in order to be induced on Monday he wanted to have my cervix softened prior if I wasn't dialated anymore. So, the whole way up there I was PRAYING I would be at least 3cm so I could spend some time with my husband and MAYBE even get to have sex which we haven't done in 3 months since we haven't seen each other and will not be able to again for about 11 months! He would be getting there around 6pm...why couldn't they just give me those few fricking hours???? But, no such luck. I get there and am thick and still only 1.5cm!!!!!! I was so upset. Anyways, they gave me the cytotec at 5:30pm and again at 9:30pm. I had been having contractions for a week and they picked up with the cytotec, but still only got me to a 3! My husband got into town around 6 and went to see my son first to spend some time with him since I wasn't going anywhere! He got to the hospital and relieved my mom of duty around 11pm after getting me my last meal for over 12 hours of Taco Bell! It was so late there wasn't much else open. It felt so weird seeing my husband after all these months, because here I was laying in a hospital bed all strapped up to monitors and blood pressure machine and couldn't even give him a good hug! Plus, I felt so vulnerable with my *** hanging out everytime I had to pee! I knew it had to look so different after all those months of gaining weight and not being able to exercise, but he didn't seem to mind. He even said that he was turned on! LOL So, at 4am they gave me the petocin. And at 6:30am I got the epidural. It was the most HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!!!!! I seriously thought the lady was paralyzing me! She was hitting a nerve (at least that is what she said) but I was literally screaming it hurt so bad! It was like someone took an axe to my back and it lit my leg up so bad! I will NEVER NEVER NEVER get one of those again! I had a great experience with the epi on my first child, but I swear it is not worth it! Anyways, I had to be given phenagran for nausea so I was pretty out of it for a while. But nothing was progressing for quite sometime. So they kept increasing the petocin and I kept sleeping. At 11:30am I was finally at 4cm which was enough to break my water. The nurse told me I should progress about 1cm per hour..... My epirdural started wearing off sometime around 12pm and they had to up it, but I was still feeling some pain in my left back. At 12:30pm the nurse checked me and was like "Whoa! Okay you are at an 8 and a half...maybe 9. I guess I need to get the room ready and call your doctor." So, they scrambled around and about an hour and 10 mins later she was checking me and told the doctor something about "we don't have time for the ......" and that he needed to get over there she was coming out! Luckily they already had the mirror set up and sure enough there she was! Her head was coming out and I wasn't even pushing! The doctor put some betadine on me and next thing I knew he said "She's going to flip" and sure enough she came out and completely flipped 365 over! Luckily he's an experience doctor and was ready for that, but it startled me! Those damn bright lights were bothering her, but she did manage to get a look at me as she peed for the very first time while I was holding her! We got to keep her in the room for about an hour and then they took for about 3 hours! I was pissed! They said it would only be one hour! I was still really out of it from the phenagran though, so I guess it was okay, That day she was the sweetest baby and I was just so amazed at how quiet she was compared to my son who hollared for hours every single day of his first few years of life! But that night she started to do that too! She was wanting to nurse every half hour....no joke! Plus she was doing this gagging thing that was scaring the hell out of me, but the nurses said it was normal and she was just needing to get up that amniotic fluid and mucas...but she was not getting it out! She was swallowing it. I was getting so worried! She did this for the first 3 days. My nipples were bleeding and hurting so bad, but FINALLY my milk came in yesterday and she is now the sweetest thing! She is happy and sleeping for longer periods of time now. She actually slept over 3 hours twice today! I know that nursing is best for the baby, but I don't understand why we were created to make the baby starve for 3 days! I feel so horrible about it! I promise you I do! I know she is okay and was getting colostrum and that her nursing so much helped get the milk in...but damn! She was miserable! Anyways, glad that is over......my son is a very, very excited big brother and my husband is so very proud...just misses her. He had to leave less than 24 hours after her arrival and was very sad to have to go back to training. But at least he got to be here for her birth.

Re: **November sweet potatoes birth stories and awards**

So I started having contractions when i woke up on tuesday the 3rd and they were 2-5 min apart so I called the doc and went in to the office. She checked me and I was still 3cm and 70% same as the previous week's appt. She sends me to labor and delivery to test for infection and to get tributaline. I'm on my way down the hall way and contracting regularly and my sister calls and I tell her whats going on and she says don't take the tributaline. She took it and her daughter has autisium and the same thing happened with several other ppl she knows. So I was standing in the hallway with hubby trying to figure out what was worse, 4% chance of breathing problems, something that can be fixed, or unknown chance of autisium, something that she would have to deal with for life. So we ending up not getting the tributaline, but I did get a pill to stop contractions which didn't work. I ended up having a UTI and it was weird cuz I didn't have any symptom for one. We checked in at 11 am and were told that I would be admitted and watched overnight and in the morning if I didn't stop contracting or if my water didn't break they would break it. We were told we would be admitted at 2pm but didn't get a room until 6pm and the pain was bad but I couldn't get anything until I was admitted. My contractions were 1-2 min apart all night but water never broke. Doc broke my water around 10 or 11 on the 4th and i went from 4 cm to 10 by 2pm. I think i was there earlier but they wouldn't check me. I got an epi that never worked right. it numbed my left leg but not my right and I felt all the pain in my wo ha. No relief at all. They had me start pushing and I pushed with no pain meds for almost 2 1/2 hours and then my temp got to 103 and the babys heart rate was in 180s and they had me stop pushing while i waited 30 min for the doc to get there. As bad as laboring was, not pushing was a million times worse, I hope none of you ever have to go through that. The doc finally got there and by this time my contractions were one after another i didn't have a break at all. They wheeled me away for an emergency c section and I was told later that I had a panic attack, which I don't remember, and they had to put me completely under anestetic. When I woke up I asked for my baby and was told I wouldn't get to see her until I could walk and go to the nursery because she was in a breathing box or something, and they said i wouldn't beable to walk for 6 hours. I asked what her apgars were and was told 2 and 7, the next couple of hours are a lil fuzzy but when they got me to my room and out of recovery my family was there and they told me Aurora was doing fine and wasn't in the box anymore and that my hubby could go get her and bring her to me in an hour. It was the best news I could hear. I was later told her apgars were so low because they had to put me under completely and that it affects the baby. Her breathing is wonderful and she is perfect, except now she has juandice. I went to the doc yesterday and her bili level was a 15 and he said she will be fine and we don't have to put her under the lights. YAY! It would be so hard to give her up. Oh and I was out of the hospital on the 6th and I've been in tons of pain. A c section is harder than I thought it would be to recover from. She was 6lbs 2oz and 17 1/2 inches long. The reason I had to push so long is because she wouldn't fit through my pelvis, and she isn't big at all. I guess i don't have "child bearing hips" lol.

Re: **November sweet potatoes birth stories and awards**

Karah Ann Wagner was born November 12, 2009 at 2:45 a.m. She was 6lbs 9.8 oz, 18 1/2 in long. Very fast labor. I started feeling a lot of right hip/pelvic pain around 5 p.m. and couldn't walk. Went in to get checked was 5 or 6 cm dialated, but since I was not having any contractions they sent me home after they stripped my membranes. They told me if contractions start to get my butt back to the hospital asap. Had supper, put the boys to bed, took a long bath and then my contractions started about 10 p.m. They quickly went from 20 minutes to10 minutes and I got outta the tub and laid down then they sent to 5 minutes. Got our stuff together and went back to the hospital. They checked me then and I was an 8. My doc broke my water about 12:30 a.m. and things started moving quickly along. I was almost a with just a lip around 1. O MY I hate being right there. It's the worst feeling in the world. A few contractions later she asked me to push. It just felt like nothing was moving that I wasn't getting anywhere. She saw some blood so she wanted me to wait for a few more contractions because she was concerned that I would tear my cervix. Horrible horrible that breathing through those contractions. I had a really good nurse to keep me on track when I was loosing it. Now the good part, my doc said to try to push again. The next contraction I started pushing and the doc said hey there is part of her bag right here and did this I guess sweep and I felt the bag come out and like on a slippery slide here came Karah!!! It was wild. No one was really ready for her. I about jumped off the table. Karah had some breathing troubles for the first 24 hours. They had to have oxygen on her for the first 12 hours. At first they thought they may have to send her to Lincoln or Omaha. Scary thought. She pulled though and after 48 hours of antibiotic for procautionary reasons, we got discharged. YAY!!

Re: **November sweet potatoes birth stories and awards**

Henry Patrick's Birth StoryI never would have thought that this would have all started with what I thought was me peeing my pants. haha The short version: My water broke on Sunday morning (we think), I went into the hospital at 9 PM. I had regular contractions but they weren't strong enough, so i had to be given pitocin at 1 AM on Monday. At 7:54 AM on Oct 26th, Henry was born. Ten days before his due date and 8 lb 7 oz, 21.5 inches long. He has my long fingers and alot of light blondish hair on his cone head hehe The long version of the story for those who love all the details:Sunday AM (Oct 25): All day I felt what I thought was a very leaky bladder. Mike & I debated off & on whether I should even call the Dr. I was afraid they'd want me to go in to be checked just to find out there was nothing the matter. Around dinner time we both decided that just in case i should get it checked out (since there is a risk of infection if you don't have the baby within a day or so of your water breaking). I called & they told me to come on into triage. The nurse got me all set up and the Dr. explained the procedure to check for a rupture of membranes. I was anticipating a not so fun pelvic exam, but when she pulled back the sheet she said, "we won't have to do this test your bag is grossly ruptured." haha Thanks. By this point I am 4 cm and having contractions about every 3 minutes, but they are not very strong. So they admit me and the game plan is set: get the antibiotics I need for GBS (which will take a full 8 hours to process) and then start walking. If we can get the contractions going then great, but if not, then we have to start pitocin. :( Monday (Oct 26)Midnight-4AM: By this point Mike, my mom and sister are with me. James is sleeping at home with my dad watching him. They give me an hour or so to walk around but my contractions don't get any stronger so the pitocin goes in around 1 AM. For about an hour I begin to feel them get stronger and stronger. After awhile they are too uncomfortable for me to walk so i get on the birth ball (since my water broke, my plan to try out the tub went out the window). By 2 AM they are soooo strong and incredibly painful. Mike is helping me breathe through them and my mom and sister take turns massaging my back, but it was the worst pain I have ever felt. Not only every contraction (which I swear came 1 right after the other), but even in the short breaks I felt a ton of pressure in my lower back and hips. So I broke down and requested the epidural. It took about an hr from when I requested it until the anesthesiologist got there, once it was in though I was so relieved! I did have some trouble with my blood pressure going down, so the nurse had to give me 3 doses of meds to bring it up and a butt load of IV fluids. After that i also had to keep an oxygen mask on because the nurse said Henry seemed happier when I was getting more air. I have to say though, it was a perfect epi. I must have had a great anesthesiologist. I never felt any more pain, just some pressure and I was still able to move my legs and lift my bottom off the bed (which really impressed the Dr and nurses haha). After I got the epi, my nurse checked me and I was a 6. I couldn't believe after all that pain I wasn't at least 7 or 8! 4AM-7 AM: Not much happens. They do turn the pitocin off though because I guess it did it's job and kick started my labor, but now my body has taken over to do it's job. I try to rest, but can't really fall asleep with an oxygen mask, blood pressure cuff going off every few minutes. 7 AM: Shift change, I get a new nurse and Dr who I am much happier with. The new nurse, whose name is Jennifer checks me and I'm a 9 1/2!!!! She has me push once while she holds open my cervix and it opens to a 10!!! Everything is happening so fast. My 2nd dose of antibiotics is given just in time, the new Dr comes in and checks me to find the baby is "right there." I begin pushing and after just 6 minutes, Henry was here! It was absolutely amazing! Especially since I pushed for 1 1/2 hr with James. He did have his cord wrapped around his neck once, but the Dr took care of that right away. He is covered in vernix and they laid him on my chest but he isn't crying. He starts grunting, so they take him away to the baby table. They say it's OK but have to help clear his lungs or something. (I wonder if this had anything to do with all the drugs I was given or the cord, or just for no reason.) Mike, my mom and sister go over to see him while I am still glued to the bed and delivering the placenta. Finally his breathing is better and I get to hold him skin to skin. I kept rubbing his face and hair and tickling his toes. He was so cute, I couldn't believe this creature just came out of me. I also got to nurse him. He did have low blood sugar, so he had to be given 2 syringes of formula before it was up to a good level. I had a really small tear, which at first the Dr wasn't going to stitch, but she decided to just to make it tidier.

My birth experience was alot different than I would have expected. I never thought my water would break before I had contractions. I hoped to use the tub to labor in and possibly avoid an epidural. I also never ever anticipated having to be given pitocin. But in this scenario those things couldn't be avoided (well maybe the epi haha but I'm a wimp). It seems like more things went wrong with this labor than my last (low blood pressure, Henry's breathing trouble and blood sugar levels)... but at the same time, this labor was much easier. And afterwards I felt so much better. It didn't go the way I had even loosely envisioned, but at the same time I couldn't have hoped for it to be any better. I'm sure in a few days the exhaustion will catch up to me, but for now I am still in awe of how wonderful everything turned out. I'm so grateful I've had two little boys now who have come into my life.

    dayne kylers birth story:)

On nov. 11th I had a midwife appt, I was 39+4 weeks. She checked me and I was 3cm, and when she stripped my membranes she said she could stretch it to 4cm...ouch!! Well, I started having sporadic contractions right away but they had no rhythm and they didnt hurt. Around 4:00 pm we went to johns moms and the contractions got to 8-10 minutes apart,by 6pm they were 6-8 minutes apart but they werent to uncomfortable. At 8:30pm they were the same 6-8 minutes and not any stronger...I told dh we should go to bed. At 9:44pm I woke up to a contraction that hurt like hell! I got up,went to the bathroom and had tons of bloody show...and another contraction 5 minutes later. After 3in a row at 4-5 minutes I woke up dh and told him we had to go NOW!! the contractions hurt really bad and I was alittle nervous. We got to the hospital at 11:00pm and I was 6 cm dilated:) They tried to start the antibiotics but it took them 3 damn sticks..I hate i.v's:(  The antibiotics started running at 11:30pm. At 12:00 I told them I was feeling alot of pressure in my butt, the midwife checked and I was 9cm. The midwife and student doctor were so amazing, they helped me change positions from my knees,to the ball (which I hated), to the toilet...eventually I realized that standing up was the most bearable. I labored unmedicated the whole time, but because the antibiotics werent in me very long they didnt want my water to break...the midwifes goal was 1:30 am, that would be 2 hours from when the antibiotics got in me. I labored at 10cm with my water unbroken from 12:30-1:30am.At 1:30am I was standing by the bed and had a horrible contraction and I beared down and my water burst everywhere...omg, I thought dayne was gonna fall out! I got back in bed and he was born about 6 minutes later at 1:36 am. The poor little guys face was black and blue from hitting my pelvic bone so hard as my water broke..Ive never seen such a bruised baby:( but he was also so alert,he nursed for the whole hour as the midwife was trying to get my placenta to detach...it was firmly planted *lol* I only had a small tear internal and they put a couple stitches in. This was an amazing delivery,it really was my dream:) the midwife stayed by me the whole time, she cheered me on, and was there as on I was able to do it naturally:) Then being able to hold him immediately and nurse him for the hour...no-one took him from me. He weighed 8lbs 4ozs and was 21inches long, he has huge feet and long, skinny legs:)

My birth story is pretty uneventful lol.

Wednesday the 11th, I had to be at the hospital at 5 am. When we got there, they did the usual work up with the history etc. At 6 am they checked me-still at 5 cm and 80%. They started pitocin. They kept upping it because I still wasn't getting contractions. At 9 am the nurse advised me that if I wanted to get my epidural-now would be a good time. I had told her before hand and she read my history that my labors go pretty fast. I wanted an epi but wanted to wait until I actually needed it but didn't want to wait so long that I couldn't get it. So I agreed, I was having contractions but they didn't hurt. Oh and every time the would up the pitocin, my contractions would get strong enough to feel then stop. So she kept upping it. Anyways-the lady came in to do my epi. Wasn't too bad except she had to do it twice because the first time it wasn't in the right spot. That was at 10 am. So there I laid-numb and waiting. My doctor was doing surgerys that day. The nurse said that she would be in about 1130 to break my water. 1130 came and went. This whole time I've been complaining because I'm starving. I did eat breakfast on the way, but that was at 330 in the morning. 1230 went by. oh look there goes 130 and still no doctor. And I'm only about 6 cm and 90%. Still not having very many contractions, and the ones I was having weren't strong at all-I know that because of the machine they hooked me up to. Finally at 210 my doctor strolls in. She said she didn't want to break my water until she was done with surgerys because of how fast I go after my water is broken. Well thats fine and dandy but you should have told me instead of waiting this whole time. She breaks my water and tells the nurse to check me in 15 mins to see how I progressed. I started to feel pressure in my goodies and called the nurse in after 10 mins. And guess what......TA DA I'm 10 cm and 100% but he was still at -1. She said hold on I got to call your doc. My doc ran in just in time to catch him. He was born at 245. So she broke my water between 215-220. Lykan was born at 245...so 25 mins later he was born. Whoa was it fast. One push and there went his head. Second push and he came flying out. No ripping, tearing, or cut. He's beautiful!! 7lbs 10oz and 20 inches long
