    Birth Plans?

I know that this has been talked about before, but was wondering if we could do a recap?  Since we are all at least half way there now( I think), I was just wanting to know where everyone stood, as far as what kind of birth they want.

I personally would like to go all natural again. I had my first child, Joy, on the farm( if you've ever read spiritual midwifery you'll know where that is!), with no meds and two midwifes. I had my second, Titus, in a birth center about and hour away from where I live now. I went no meds with a midwife and a nurse, and Loved that experience( they have really nice tubs, so that helped a lot). So, God willing, I am shooting for the birth center birth again!  I  would love to do a water birth, and tried with my son, but they wouldn't let me get the water hot enough( I like really hot water), so I decided half way through his birth to just get out of the water. But I would like to actually give it a go this time. I have a 4 year old, and 2 year old, so the plan is to let the hubby take care of the kids, and let my mom help me with labor( she was there with my other two and was awesome!). Then right after baby is born, bring in the kids to see their new baby brother!

So, what's everyone else wanting to do?

    Re: Birth Plans?

I plan to give birth in the same hospital i delivered my other 2 children.  I will probably get an epidural, and will have DH in the room with me.

You could ask her to watch your son, and that way she would feel like she was helping, without you being uncomfortable...I hope it works out, family drama is not fun, keep us posted.....

I'm having a schedule repeat c-section.... So not exactly the kind of birth that I want, but at least we'll know when it's coming this time and it won't be an emergency situation like last time.

I plan on having her in the same hospital as DS and DD with my boyfriend in the room and definitaly an epidural. My only goal is to not have to be induced I would like to experience going into labor on my own since this will be the last time.

I plan on delivering in the same hospital where I delivered my son. I am hoping for a vbac, if all goes well. I would like to go as natural as possible, but if necessary I have no objections to an epidural if it would help me to deliver this one. My dh will be with me and possibly a doula. Haven't decided on that yet.

    Re: Birth Plans?

This is my first and I plan on going natural. I want to either have a home birth or at a birthing center. But my husband is so against it that I'll have her in a hospital. I want to be able to walk around and have an active labor where I can help my labor progress. I still have to talk with my doctor about it and see how active she will let me be. If she wants me strapped to the bed as soon as I get to the hospital I'll seriously try to talk my husband into letting me birth at a center. I want him and my mom with me. And I want limited medical intervention unless absolutly nessicary. My ideal situation would be to have her at home with my husband, mom and a midwife to be there just in case something happens. And just let my body do what it does naturally. But I know I will have her in a hospital which scares me to death. I don't want that goop put in her eyes as soon as she's born, and more importantly I don't want to be seperated from her for one second and the hospital does the tests with the baby in another room and they don't let anyone in there. I don't like that. But I will talk things over with my doctor and see what I can and cannot have.

I know exactly how you feel! With my daughter the midwife put that goop in her eyes before I could say anything(within seconds of her being born). With my son, I told them ahead of time that I didn't want the goop or the vitamin K shot, and they were just fine with it. If I ever had to do a hospital birth, I would make sure to sign whatever was required to NOT have them "medicate" my perfect baby within minutes of being born. And I also know how you feel about being seperated from your baby. One of my greatest fears is having to go to a hospital, and losing all control. But, if you talk to your doctor before hand, you usually get a pretty good feel on where they stand on that issue, and what they are willing to do to make you more comfortable. That was why I chose a midwife in the first place, because I could not get my doctor to promise me that baby would stay in the room with me. I hope you and your hubby come to a decision that you are both totally happy with, I know how men can beWink God bless you!

    Re: Birth Plans?

Since I have Cholestasis this time I will be induced at 36 wks (if I can make it that far) and will be having an epidural. I tend to have preterm labor and CTX daily for weeks leading up to the birth. I have to get the epidural just to make it through the labor and delivery. My body is too exhausted just trying to hang on to my babies at the end. Preterm labor lasted...14 weeks with #1, 2 weeks with #2 and 8 weeks with #3.

Having this one in the same hospital I have had all my other 3. This time I will be delaying cord cutting as before and having the cord tied off using the stericord cord bander instead of the clip. Baby will need the Vit K this time as I have ICP (normally I waived this for my babies). No goop in the eyes as my lil one has no need for it.

Just want to make it to that day and let this PG be over. :) This one has been tough on me.

Priddy mama: Just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you... I know that this has been tough on you, but hopefully the rest of this pregnancy will fly by! I remember my mom's worst pregnancy was with my twin sisters, and she was on bed rest pretty much the whole time, unable to eat, vomiting, bleeding and miserable.  She made it to 34 weeks, and I think we were all relieved to see her able to function again. I hope you get to feeling better!

I will be delivering at the same hospital as my other three. With the same doctor. I am getting an epidural, and we do all the vaccines and goop. I guess we don't need the goop I don't even know what it's for. If they ever have to take the baby I have my husband go with them. The only major issue I have is I breastfeed and with my last three babies they have given formula against my wishes. With my first two I just brushed it off and got over it. But with my last he was having some issues and was not eating very well. The nurses where freaking out, and i did feel pressure from them to give him formula. I resisted, but finally gave in. Well turns out he has some severe food allergies and one of them is to milk. So that is why he was having problems eating. He was getting milk proteins from my breast milk. After he had the formula he was REALLY cranky. I was pretty mad at myself for letting them give him formula. So this time I will make sure they know about the family history of food allergies and NO formula. Hopefully they listen to me.

Thanks so much Susan. It means alot that others know what I am going through and can sympathize. I sorta wish I was just facing bedrest this time but it seems much more than that. All the IV's, shots and test I am having run plus the constant worry my lil one is ok. It just gets to you sometimes. 36 wks cant get here fast enough.

"Erythromycin is used to prevent gonorrhea and chlamydia infection in the eyes. Approximately 5 percent of birthing women have gonorrhea. Infection can cause blindness if not treated. Some parents who have been recently tested for STDs may choose to waive the eye ointment and watch for signs of infection, such as irritation, oozing, redness. If symptoms occur, they contact their care provider for treatment. Because the eye ointment temporarily affects the baby's vision, parents may wish to request that the ointment be delayed for the first hour or until breastfeeding has occurred."

I was tested for all STD's and was clear. I am at no risk of getting any STD's since being tested so we waive the goop knowing my baby is NOT at risk for any infections. Our OB and Pedi completely agree with us on this as well. As for the Vit K, I normally waive that as I supplement with tons before birth, but this time I have ICP and this condition depletes the K levels for both me and baby. So I will be getting it this time for my lil one.

Hello, What is choestasis? i cant imagine being in preterm labor that long, how scary! Also can you elaborate on why you are choosing to do the cord bander, vit K and no goop ? LOL I am just curious. After having my daughter I didnt realize so much of what I had done to her was optional! I would have liked to delay vaccinations and didnt know that was a choice, I do now. anyway im just curious about these things you mentioned, I don't know anything about them. Hang in there, Im having a difficult pregnancy myself. I know its stressful!
